Damn straight, I'm targeting you ...

I spend a lot of time on the bus these days.  I've noticed a trend towards plunking bag(s) down on empty seats and/or simply spreading oneself out over two or more seats, even when the bus fills.  Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have my stuff sitting beside me than cramped & heavy on my lap as well.  But common courtesy demands that, as the seats ( Read more... )

I noticed the same thing in lecture halls! The left handed seats are few and far between, much less those in the front row.
It's become more and more common with girls just putting their purses down. It happens in the lounges, too. One person taking up a couch that two or three people could occupy comfortably.
It used to be guys, which is what I've heard referred to as the "not gay" seat. (masculinity = about taking up space?)
._.
It's irritating, and not limited to the buses, either.

I understand exactly where you're coming from. I frequently give up my seat for others, and these days get a small kick out of the look on some of the faces when those disrepectful asshats realize I'm wearing one (sometimes two) knee braces, and, on occasion, have a cane.

I guess it's hard to look tough when you get showed up by a cripple.

On the flip side, this also often results in a brief but good natured argument with the person I'm giving up my seat for.

No one ever gave up a seat for me when I was pregnant on the TTC. If I really needed one I would ask but I hated doing that as I never knew who really needed the seat or not. You can't tell by looking the people with bad backs or who have been on their feet all day.
The worse thing was people shoving past you to get further back on the bus despite the fact that there really isn't any room. People did this to me even when I was obviously preggers. I would have to try and protect my stomach from being knocked into someone or the bus itself.

It's not all bad. I've had lots of people offer up their seat for Kate when I've been traveling by bus.
