understand the understanding

Today a good friend and I were talking about how we could possibly explain to people back home what its like out here, what we do. It is something we have never been able to do, and we both agree that it is not a possible task. I explained an approach that I feel is the best way to give some understanding however, or at least help people to ( Read more... )

I like the analogy. It's excatly how I feel about my experience in Russia. People ask me how I liked it and what it was like, and I can try and explaine, but they will never understand. Even the other girls that I went to Russia with, that had the same experience as me, they will never understand my perspective and what the experience ment for me.

P.S. DON'T DIE!

*nodds* the wilderness theory. Communication is based quite simply on an idea of an idea. I have the word dog in mind, I speak the word, you take that word and interpret as you may, in accordance with your own feelings, experiences. Maybe for example, you were once raped by a wild pack of palmeranians... that would definantly alter your view of the word dog, each time that word being said, would conjure up horriffic images of dogs sex organs, and make you feel violated in funny places. The exact same thing happens to me... well not with the dogs, but with my experience here, the most we can do is try and help others understand, give them the brief, and hope they can understand us. Thats why people change so much when they are apart, because you are experiencing different things, and changing in different directions. I like a shattered mirror, see the parts of me, scattered amoungst thousands of people who have eached touched my life, taken thier sliver that reflects me, and left, leaving me broken, not whole...

So wait... you are saying that you feel violated by Ukranians? Or Ukrainian dogs maybe?

But yes, that communication/language concept was first explained to me by Ayn Rand, and that was a source of inspiration.
