Yuletide placeholder!

Oct 09, 2016 21:26

Oh god I'm doing it. To be edited once I decide what on earth I'm actually doing.

OK, details under the cut: Nirvana in Fire, Sense8, Faking It, Obernewtyn Chronicles, Miss Fisher...

Hi Yuletide author! I see that you're charismatic, intelligent and good-looking with excellent taste in fandoms, since you ended up here. :) I think we're going to get along great.

Please have fun with the challenge and write the story you'll be proud to have your name on (after the reveal), no need to cater to my whims. However, in case it helps, below are some likes, dislikes, and notes on each fandom to help you generate ideas.

I am not super enthused about:
  • first person POV
  • major kink
  • extreme angst
  • extreme sap and excessive talking about feelings (repression ftw!)

I am perfectly happy with:
  • any type of pairing or no pairing (gen, m/m, m/f, f/f, multi, with a particular taste for OT3)
  • any type of rating
  • hurt/comfort as long as the comfort arrives!
  • any type of complexity, from silliness, fluff or PWP to long plotty things that grow out of control, yay!

Nirvana in Fire

Oh god did this eat your brain too? I don't even know where to start, holy shit. The characters, the plot, the tension, the costumes, the scenery. For me it's mostly about the characters - I love them ALL, even the bad guys. I particularly love Jingyan and his water buffalo nature. I ship it all, too - for me the whole series was awash with UST. I'd cheerfully see an alternate ending (and a happy ever after between Nihuang, Jingyan and Lin Shu), or a flash back to earlier days. I also really enjoy Lin Chen, Fei Liu, Yan Yujin and Mu Qing as characters who lighten the angst. I'm interested in what becomes of Nihuan, Qin Banruo or Xia Dong & Nie Feng. There is so much to explore in this series, so pick whatever interests you and run with it.

Sense8

So much joyful squealing while watching this show. My favourite scenes are the ones when their different talents help each other out and make them more than they were alone. I also love the scenes when they're trying to live their ordinary lives and pass as normal but all these people from across the world are hanging around, distracting them. I love all the characters but have a particular fondness for Kala who is so kind and wise, Wolfie who is a perplexing stone cold marshmallow, and of course the endless hilarious amazing dramafest that is Lito.

The Chronicles of Obernewtyn

MAJOR SPOILERS IN THIS SECTION IF YOU'RE NOT FINISHED

Holy shit, it's finished. I've been reading this series since I was 12 years old and it's been with me for so long that I barely comprehend that it's over. I was a bit shocked by the ending - I didn't expect Elspeth and Rushton to be separated from all their friends - but at the same time so happy to see the prophecy come true. I'm intrigued with what happens after the ending. It's such a vast world with so many characters and I wonder how all those stories keep playing out.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

So as an Australian I came embarrassingly late to this series, then raced through all 3 seasons and then was like, WHERE MORE?! Why are they not making more already?? I'm most invested and intrigued by the Phryne and Jack relationship/storyline, because I think the show has made a good case for why they're not together despite the obvious sparks. Phryne is obviously a goldmine of stories, adventures and defiance. I also really enjoy Mac and would like to know more about her past and maybe past adventures of her and Phryne.

Faking It

So some of the hardest I've laughed in the last two years has been because of Faking It. This is a show that has me falling off the couch laughing and awwing and occasionally doubling over because its dark underside has kicked me in the gut. My favourite thing about the show is probably Hester High School, which is both heartwarming and hilariously over the top - literal basketweaving classes amid awesome engagement, representation and respect. I adore Amy and her unenthused confusion in the midst of all her outgoing, uber-enthused friends. I think the show is clear that Karma has work to do on herself, so I'm very curious about her future - she's such a force of nature, so when she matures a bit I wonder what she's going to make of herself. I love the strong, resilient friendship between Liam and Shane, where they call each other out and fight and have each other's backs. I think that friendship is an interesting compare/contrast to Amy and Karma. Felix has been an intriguing addition and I really like him. I find Lauren a bit confusing - I feel like I relate more to the snotty, conservative HBIC than I do to the vulnerable girl underneath, and I love to hate (read: laugh out loud at) how she treats her minions. I wish I related to Lauren better.

Even though the show has a swirling morass of potential ships (and the clusterfucky hilarity that ensues), at heart I'm all about the friendships. <3
