Figured it was time I posted again. Been incredibly busy since my birthday on the 15th, but all in a wonderful way - lots of music stuff happening.
, where I worked with Donna Hebert and Groovemama, and worked with the kids in the Great Groove Band - there are pictures on my Photobucket account which you are free to check out:
pictures from the Philadelphia Folk Festival What a good time we had! Fun at the Festival itself, the kids performed beautifully on the Main Stage at the beginning of the Sunday afternoon concert, I got to play with Groovemama for the final contra dance of the Festival, AND we played my waltz as the final waltz of the dance! It was such a thrill for me, and pure magic in the arrangement we did of it! :: sigh :: That waltz, Winter Sunset, and a reel I wrote this summer, Glendiferous, will be published in a tunebook this fall, with music from other Connecticut contra musicians - I'll keep everyone posted on it :-)
We had loads of fun each night back at the hotel, playing and jamming, partying, talking, and laughing!
Donna was very happy with me being there, and has asked me, along with three other musicians who were at Philly, to join her and Groovemama again next year, for both
Philly (they want us back - yea!!) and
the Old Songs Festival. I will be working with Donna on a few web projects this fall and winter, along with music projects like the Great Groove Band, and she wants my musical resume for future use too. I am very thrilled about how this is all coming down! I'll see Donna on the 24th for her birthday celebration, and we'll figure out some other stuff coming down.
I've been playing out with
Fairfield Crossing a fair amount since Philly, including this past weekend for the Great Danbury Irish Festival, where we were well received. We're gearing up to get more paying gigs, versus just the coffeehouse for tips. That will take some time, and some work.
I also played with my friend
Jane Rothfield and her band Jane's Gang this past Saturday night for the Round Hill Contra Dance - that was an absolute blast! We went to a great restaurant beforehand, to which we've been a few times now. It was a lot of fun!
The Reel Thing is getting in gear again too, after the summer. We are playing on Friday evening for a family dance at a school in Middletown, CT, then Saturday afternoon in New Fairfield at a showcase concert, and then on the 23rd for
the Danbury Contra Dance and October 14th for
The HCD Contra Dance. This will be closely followed by
the NOMAD Festival in the beginning of November. I am also playing a solo gig here in town this Saturday, early afternoon, and two nursing home/adult center gigs with Bill on Sunday and Monday.
Plus the boy is back at school, keeping busy, and everything that includes - morning car pool, picking him up after school each afternoon, new schedule for the voice lessons.. Lots going on lol...
Lots of excitement too, on the James Marsters front, following the QM event this past weekend. Lots of BEAUTIFUL pictures and great reports. My friend Spicywings from
Marsters' Mobsters board (my home out here on the Internet, along with LJ) picked up one fo the new James piccies for me, and I can't wait to see what she got for me :: salivating just thinking about it lol :: Lots of links to pics and reports in the "Con Talk" folder at the Mobsters site, so please do check it out if you like James.
And here is a new project that I am championing: at the QM event, Michael Winnick, the director and writer for Shadow Puppets, James' movie project filmed in the fall of 2005, did speak about it.
"It is still being editing and it's unlikely that it will be released this October. The producers are hoping for a wide theatrical release and said that they would appreciate fan support. We can do this by going to the Shoreline Films website and e-mailing them to say that we would love this film to be released in theaters."
If you have not had the chance to visit the web site, here's the address for it

I think postcards, in addition to e-mails, are an excellent idea. Regional postcards, perhaps, for your hometowns?
So once again, there is your assignment :-) I'll keep you posted about what I hear as well.
