I really need to do these drabble posts more often, but I won’t dump all of them on you at once. Consider yourself warned for my usual mix of pairings and ratings.
Prompt: Brian
Title: What's in a Name
Brian, Brian, Brian. Daphne was so sick of hearing that name, but he was all Justin talked about. She didn’t get it. He wasn’t nearly as hot as Justin made him out to be, and most of the time, he didn’t seem to even like Justin. All he wanted was sex. Justin could do better. If he just looked around he’d see there were people who really cared about him. But all he cared about was Brian Kinney.
Daphne knew one thing. If that was the face of God, her mother was never guilting her into going to church again.
Prompt: Loyalty
Title: Sinking Ship
“Fuck.”
“Brian,” Ted began, but Brian held up a hand to stop him.
The reports were clear. It was bad enough reading about Kinnetik’s likely demise; Brian couldn’t stomach Ted explaining it in excruciating detail. And there were other things to attend to, like Ted’s career. Brian’s inattention may have led to this mess, but he would salvage what he could. “Theodore, I spoke to Leo Brown, and he has a comparable position for you at Brown Athletics if you want it.”
“No way. If we go down, we go down fighting, together.”
“Well then, batten down the hatches, Matey.”
Title: Smooth Sailing
Notes: Sequel to
Sinking Ship written for
vl_redreign who wanted Ted to fix it!
“Brian, I don’t know what to say.”
“A gold watch seemed so cliché,” Brian shrugged, striving for nonchalance.
The premium box seats for Pittsburgh’s Opera Season cost him nothing but money, but securing luxury hotel accommodations and tickets for opening night at The Met proved more difficult. Five years after Kinnetik’s near demise, Brian again had the connections to do it.
They’d made big sacrifices-selling Britin, Justin leaving New York to become Kinnetik’s art department, Ted working essentially for free, Blake filling in where he could. Yet, Ted never once lost faith.
Brian met his eyes, “And you deserve it.”
Prompt: Scream
Title: Worth the Wait
Justin rarely joined Brian when he entertained clients, but the Ambrose’s had lost a son to AIDS in the eighties and insisted on meeting Brian’s partner. They were a sweet couple, filthy rich, but also dull as dirt.
“If he mentions his colon one more time, I’m going to scream,” Justin hissed as the waiter set their plates down.
“Just keep smiling, and later you can scream as loud as you want while I pound your ass with my cock.” Brian whispered while pretending to brush back a lock of Justin’s hair.
Watching them, Mrs. Abrose sighed, “Aren’t they cute.”
Title: Beacon
Emmett entered the diner with a flourish, causing Brian to shade his eyes as he approached. “Honeycutt, what the fuck?”
“Don’t you love it!” Emmett did a slow pirouette, showing off the tight neon yellow shirt he’d paired with his favorite tangerine leather pants. “I look at all those clouds and decided I needed an outfit that screamed. . .”
“Colorblindness?”
“Spring!” Emmett finished.
“You look like the victim of a highlighter explosion.”
Before Emmett could protest, Debbie came over. “I heard it was going to be foggy tonight. Em, are you standing on top of Babylon to guide the queers home?”
Prompt: St. James Academy
Title: The Best Intentions
The Dean rose and shook their hands. “It was a pleasure meeting both of you, and I hope to hear from you soon. Remember, we only have a few openings remaining, and I’d love to see one of them go to Justin.”
Jennifer turned to Craig as soon as they walked outside, “What do you think?”
“Did you see the price? It’s almost as much as Dartmouth.”
“I know it’s a lot of money, but look at this place.” Jennifer held out her arms, smiling as she looked over the beautiful campus. “Justin will be happy here. He’ll be safe.”
Prompt: Bedhead Hair
Title: Familiar Sight
Justin woke as Brian was coming out of the bathroom. He watched Brian yawn and shove his hands into his already mussed hair, making it stick out in even more impossible angles. He never thought he’d miss Brian’s bedhead, but it was a surprisingly welcome sight.
He must have smiled because Brian made a face and asked, “What?”
A quick joke was on the tip of Justin’s tongue, but Brian was sensitive about his hair. Thinking of all the mornings he woke up alone, Justin chose to remain silent. He just shook his head and welcomed Brian back to bed.
Prompt: Summer
Title: Never Going Home
Note: Thank you to
flamencanyc for being such patient and helpful beta! Title taken from the Erasure song "Home" because it's late, and I'm too tired to think of one,
The first week of August, Pittsburgh was so hot and humid that when Emmett stepped out of his apartment he felt like he was back home in Hazelhurst. But then he walked down Liberty Avenue, and while people waved or stopped to say hello, not one person spit on him.
When he reached the Diner, he was soaked with sweat and dying for some of his Momma’s lemonade. But after being greeted with hugs, and teasing backed by love not hate, he remembered that Debbie’s lemon bars were even better.
Pittsburgh might not be Hazelhurst, but it certainly was home.
Title: Not According To Plan
Daphne,
September called AGAIN. She wants to go to the mall. Call her back!
Love,
Mom
Daphne crumbled up the note and threw it away. Her mom must be really worried if she wanted Daphne to go shopping instead getting ahead on her first semester reading. Daphne didn’t have time for either.
The summer before college was supposed to be the best of their lives. She and Justin planned to spend it hanging out by the pool, dancing at Babylon, and smoking Brian’s joints.
She was still spending all her time with Justin. He just didn’t know she was there.
