Mouse in the house

Ok, so I have never had a cat in my life before. Who knew that she would decide to find mice and bring them inside to play with?

Sunday night she came in and a mouse came in at the same time. I tried to help her catch it so we could put it outside, but it kept escaping from her. I called my friend who came over with a mousetrap (not a humane one, but it hardly mattered since the thing was defective anyway). So there is a mouse in my house. I went out Monday and got a couple humane traps and some peanut butter, but no mouse yet.

Did I learn my lesson?

NO!!

Last night she brought in another mouse. I was on the phone with an extremely talkative yet boring woman, so I was distracted (that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!). I did look around Kitty before letting her in, but I didn't look in her mouth. She got inside and dropped the mouse who immedieately ran for its life. Kitty had great fun with that. And it escaped into the kitchen where the other one had escaped to. I figured out where they went though--there's a hole in the bottom of my cupboards. Gotta get that fixed.

So I'm watching "The Riches", and I notice Kitty rummaging around in my sewing stuff. She normally leaves that alone, so I went to see what she was doing, and there was the mouse, being chased again. I got a bowl and trapped it (I think I hurt it, though, but I didn't mean to). I put it in a bag with a little opening at the top, and put it outside. This morning the mouse was no longer in the bag, so I assume it felt better and crawled away. Kitty wasn't happy that I kept her inside after putting the mouse outside.

But there's still at least one mouse in the house. Great. Good thing I'm not afraid of mice. Course, with my living situation, I really don't have the luxury of being afraid of tiny creatures. I just have to deal with them. And I do have a cat. She seems to be causing more problems than solving them, though.

Speaking of pets, I have some friends with a beautiful (but untrained, other than house trained) cocker spaniel. Pure bred, but they're looking into getting her spayed. They need to find a new home for her, since the mom of the family is allergic. Anyone need a new dog?
