This post may be controversial, so I'm going to put a little break here...
Ok, so my friend sends me this email, which references this news story :
KABC in Los Angeles It's hard for me to state my thoughts clearly on this, so bear with me. Following our country's process, Californians voted on Proposition 8 on Tuesday and it passed. Marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman. Now, remember, in California, those who are couples that are of the same sex do have the same rights as those who are not. So basically it looks to me like the homosexual community is trying to redefine a basic tenet of society, with no real changes to how they're living. So why on earth do they care so much about redefining what a marriage means? Why don't they define their own new name and call it that? Complete with all legal ramifications? course, they did take the word 'gay' and make it into something entirely different (anyone who knows the original lyrics to "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" knows that)
Ok, putting that question aside for a moment, I really have to ask--why is it ok to target Mormons and Christians for thier beliefs but it's not ok to target Muslims or homosexuals or buddists or other groups that believe or behave differently? Is it because Mormonism is seen as an 'American' religion (even though the majority of our members now live outside of North America)? Is it because Christians tend to be easy targets? All that 'turn the other cheek' and 'love thy neighbor' stuff?
Could someone please explain to me why it's not ok to bash homosexuals or Muslims but it *is* ok to beat me up? Follow me home and threaten me just because I'm Mormon??? That just seems wrong, in a country that professes to be all about freedom. If it were for any other reason the perpertrator would be arrested. But because I'm LDS it's 'OK'. Sigh. And the 60's song comes to mind, "Oh when will they ever learn? Oh when will they ever learn?"
At least I don't live in Missouri... 40 years ago it was legal to shoot Mormons on sight. Glad they changed *that* law...
