I ended up watching the Oscars tonight. This is the only year where I was emotionally invested in several of the films nominated.
Some random thoughts:
- Thank GOD Marion Cotillard won. I would have died if she hadn't, because she acted the fuck out of her role as Edith Piaf. My lord. And she was so cute!
- I liked Enchanted as much as the next person, but no one can compare that music to Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. They deserved it, and both their speeches were incredible. Also, how ADORABLE was it that they brought back Marketa so she could actually SAY her speech? Finally, the Oscar people weren't cut throat and brutal. Everyone should see Once!!
- I'm sitting in amazement that the Coen brothers won 3 Academy Awards tonight. Fuck. I really need to watch No Country for Old Men. I've had it downloaded for weeks, but never felt in the mood to watch it. I suppose I will now.
- I'm glad that Diablo Cody won, but I'm also glad that Juno or Ellen Page didn't win. They were good, but not in the same league at all as the other contenders.
- Dario Marianelli totally deserved that. Whoever uses a typewriter as an musical instrument, and who composes the masterpiece The Elegy of Dunkirk deserves that Oscar. Damn. :)
- I didn't particularly adore any of the dresses, except for Jennifer Garner's. She will forever be a goddess in my eyes. Oh, Marion Cotillard's had a beautiful cut and colour, but looked too fish-scaley. Gorgeous, though.
