Charming again...

::::Another photo of the same necklace while it was still in progress. I just wanted to show you how the stones change in different light. Those hang-y Amethyst beads didn't make the cut in the end & the silver charm wasn't oxidized yet. The necklace to the right (yawn), was made long ago and am now pulling it apart to make something more ( Read more... )

Oof - I didn't think to mention that I didn't make the dragonfly! It was made by someone in the Karen Hilltribe in Thailand.

Here's a link to some photos of them. http://www.thailandlife.com/longneck_02.html Check out the silver they're wearing. :0)
They make weavings and silver doo-dads to support themselves - and their jewelry has become really popular with beaders.

I'd love to know more about the person who made the things I have. I've run across some webpages of others who have trekked out there to meet & buy directly from the hilltribe themselves.

well, the dragonfly is killer-nifty, regardless. :)

The long-necked hilltribe looks like a neat place to vist, too... any excuse to visit an exotic place and learn new things is a good one, methinks.

Doesn't it?? :0) I didn't read what the guy who made that page wrote until just now. He might have woken up on the wrong side of the bed before he went there. ;) If I were stuck in a remote tribe w/ little education, I'd try to make money to support myself in whatever way possible, too.

No different than here really - the need to support oneself, I mean.

Thank you! :0)
Actually, it's just that I've looked at it for so long & have figured out how to do more things, so I'll probably just add some different silver to it or whatnot. Much like when I change something in the house, get tired of looking at it and add something else to it.

ok I'm a guy (as you know) and not that into jewelry-- aside from when I am paying for it at the diamond section of the Mall jewelry store... having said that... your stuff really does rock. Very different from the mundane stuff I usually see. I particularly like the silver pieces.. They almost look like ancient Greek coins. Here's another one...
I hope you take this great talent you have and push it to the max.. I say make millions! ;)

Make millions...pshaw! ;) But thank youuu.
You'd be surprised, there are several males I've come across that make jewelry. Mostly actual metalsmiths making the fancy stuff - but several other males like this guy makes beaded jewelry: http://www.davidaubrey.com/ I see his things in stores often.

Those coins would be fun to see in person - I bet they made them pretty much the same way. Carving or hammering metal into over a mold, etc.

SO much fun.
Where do you sell your work ?
Where do you buy your gems ?
My girlfriend was making jewelry a couple of years ago and I was making beaded necklaces that used some semi precious stone but neither of us ever sold a thing. Her investment was huge.

I love the silver charms.
Where do you make these ?

Haven't tried to sell anything before. I've given things away at gift giving time, & a small amount of things I wear myself.

I get everything online - truly multitudes of places that I cull through so that I don't have to pay the high prices my local bead stores want.

Where did you sell your necklaces at? Did you try EBAY? :0)

The charms I make at home. It's very easy...I'll explain how in another post, because interestingly enough, I made the charm with something anyone can use. :0)

I thought about ebay of course, but since it would entail some great photographic finesse I chickened out.

Now that I have a digital camera I may make some attempts.
