Love the title! Yay.

And it all sounds awesome, especially the lampshading of the usual vampire tropes. Because vampires and consent IS often really badly handled. Especially when the vampires have the ability for mind control of some kind. *shudders* Yay for non-icky vampire stories!

I lampshade the mind control, too. Because he hasn't got it. There's a physical effect in his bite, like the GOOD painkillers, because prey isn't supposed to struggle, but it goes away as soon as he's NOT feeding, and he specifically disclaims any ability to read minds. He says that anything that LOOKS like it is just a matter of him paying very close attention.

*nods* Painkillers make sense, definitely. But anything with mind control just makes everything all complicated, and it's really hard to pull of actual proper consent if that's involved.

I know, right? And I didn't want to make it a full-on paranormal world with monsters and psychics around every corner. Those don't work for me very well, and I also lampshaded the ecological-niche argument against them. So mind control... right out.

I have some splendid fanfic-type ideas involving mind-control and dub-con. The way Rowling described the Imperius Curse sounded SO MUCH like subspace. But, y'know, fanfic, and the world isn't really in need of another Lucius Malfoy / innocent secretary fic.
