Sounds like the very best kind of research. I am glad you had such a good time.

I bought tripe and blood sausage at the store today. i am not sure what came over me. It just seemed vaguely Marlovian. Do you have any advice on cooking it?

I have never cooked tripe, as even though I like to think of myself as an adventurous eater, the idea of it just grosses me out. There is menudo, of course -- boyfriend, being of Cuban and Puerto Rican parents, has eaten it, and does not consider it horrible, and perhaps someday I will convince him to order it so I can try a bite. Until then, I'd go with the "Little Balls of Tripe a Man Might Eat For Ever" from Lobscouse and Spotted Dog, in honor of Jack Aubrey, and which is much more likely to be a thing Marlowe could have eaten than the very New World menudo. I'll take the liberty of copying it out here:
1 pound honeycomb tripe, cleaned and parboiled ( ... )

There see. I knew that you would know what I should do.

I also found myself thinking that Marlowe lived his whole life, (short life, poor man,) and he probably never had a potato, or a tomato, or coffee, or tea, or chocolate.

I can eat all the meat pies in the world-- but some gaps are too big to reach across.
