Things I should do today

 Dishes, and writing.

Things I did today: bake brownies, and play with the internet.

The story with the next deadline needs more research before I can even start it, I think -- I know, I know, the research-hole, but I need to get a better sense of Polly's background, and of how she became the Rockinghams' sole cook-maid, when she is young, and ( Read more... )

Reason I ask is that I posted a snark this morning there about a writing board I peeked in on...where an alleged historical fiction writer was moaning about a particular historical fiction board being obsessed with research...and OP just Could.Not.Be.Bothered because, y'know, she was writing historical fiction WITH FEELINGS rather than details. Then someone else commented that fantasy was easier because it's all made up, y'know.

ARRGH. Headdesk, headdesk, headdesk.

I'm afraid I snarked back. So far, no further responses.....

Ahhh research. And it's never. over. I researched for a good solid week or two, i watched innumerable things on youtube and took SO MANY NOTES, and I'm still running into stuff I missed/forgot/left out.

Gah.

Someone likened my research to attempting historical fiction recently, and though my first reaction was 'it's modern!' I realised I AM writing historical, sort of. Well, ONE of my character basically lives like he's in a historical novel with servants and footmen and big fancy houses and hunts and shooting and estates and titles and so on. But his love interest is from a contemporary novel. It's so weird.
