I think this is why I didn't have much success in my lessons at WU. Jay and I just didn't have the same goals. I took lessons because it was required, and he didn't seem to to know how to ask what I wanted to do, so I just tried to do what he wanted me to do. But I didn't like it, so I didn't do it, and it just didn't work out for me.
He couldn't understand that I wasn't a major and I had other things to focus on that were more important than practicing a bit from the Book.
but you know, I do fine where I'm at now. If I was playing, I'd be happy with the skills that I have. I liked Jay and respected him as a performer, but I didn't like him much as an instructor, because I don't think he listened (and I wasn't great at explaining myself).
I have no idea if this is creative contribution or not, but what you're posting of reminded me of this.
