I cannot fucking believe the media

For the record, there is a BIG difference between attacking a military record and claiming that a military record is not an automatic qualification for president.

The video below features the exact Clark quotes that are causing such a ruckus, followed by the unbelievable media hyperbole that ensued.

yes its a shame that its so much cheaper to do this for 24 hours rather than producing in depth stories about actual current events, I remember when I idealistically naively thought that because Crossfire was going off the air they were going to start improving. TV news seems like such a wasteland, do you recommend any good online news sites?

i really only pay attention to the news for politics, so pretty much all i read is the times and daily kos. the times just has good coverage, though they're in no way immune from the 24-hour news cycle and the mentality that it entails. otherwise, daily kos will give it to you straight.....from a liberal perspective, that is. generally when there's an uproar there, it's either 1) calling out stupid arguments such as the one above or 2) an uproar about an actual issue, such as the current FISA bill.

i used to frequent alternet but pretty much everyone who writes there is a loon.

....and for editorials, you can never go wrong with youtube comments.

Most of this would be solved if people actually thought for themselves. They'd hear an argument, check out the facts, and form an opinion. I really wonder how many of those news casters actually showed the General's comments in full before going off on their tirades. Still, if you think about it, all the circumstances surrounding McCain's service and capture are discounted. No-one wonders why he was shot down in Vietnam, why he was captured. They just accept it as a given that any suffering in a conflict is heroism, and that that is in itself all the experience anyone needs to run a government. Service and competency are not mutually exclusive.
