the discipline of a diary.

(this is a comment to an earlier post by sphinxie on the subject that I also wanted to have as a regular post)

I have yet to find the venue for my inner thoughts and dialogue.
I would say that, by and large, diary writing doesn't exist to a great majority of people these days. Part of that comes from the increased velocity of the world in general. From ( Read more... )

I 'spose that I should chime in, having literal feet of diaries at my disposal.
What initially helped me get underway with things was finding a notebook which I really liked. I have a few that are cool: Hardcover here and there and one that has a slot where you can slide in a pic on the cover (it has probably the most famous picture of Crowley on it, the one that is going to be on the cover of the new revised edition of Perdurabo)
The real trick to it is that merely writing diaries ad nauseum isn't as important as the return to look at them later on. So, before you start writing maybe think about trying to read some of what you already have and then go from there.
Other than that, quite a few things can help. If you do Resh there is something to write about: What time did you do it? Was there anybody with you?
Divinations make for very interesting diary fodder as well.
Over all keep it accurate.

Nobody else is going to comment on this?
Dang I think my Baphomet scared people off.

Anyway, I would like to further add that in keeping it accurate I mean to make it as honest to your thoughts on any given topic at the time as you can. When you look back through the thing it is interesting to see where delusions crept in or you held an opinion which you are currently unaware that you ever held.
Other than that there is a pretty enjoyable list of famous people who kept diaries on Wiki. It's worth perusing to see if you can pick up a copy of one of them for some inspiration.
Crowley is on the list as is Willim S. Burroghs (his was a dream diary, I believe.)
Anyway, you've got my vote of confidence. You can do it, put your back into it.
