there are two excellent methods to prevent heartbreak-

1) complete and utter narcissism. one is unlikely to break one's own heart, and if one does, at least one knows who the hell to blame.

2) inure oneself against all human emotion.

these two are not mutually exclusive. the cost is only your humanity!
