I posted a mini-rant on Facebook about the whole #womeningenre thing. I'm not going to rehash it here.

Strange Horizons posted a gender count of sf/f reviews in review publications. It should be noted that Ladybusiness also did a count of sf/f reviews on blogs.

io9 reported on it with "Handy Charts Reveal Why You've Never Heard of Most Female SF Read more... )

Most queries can be solved in two minutes with Google, but people ask anyway (I'm guilty of this myself)

I'll ask people questions too that I could've easily looked up. But usually not when it'll make me look like an idiot in front of a whole bunch of people. :)

Because I'm feeling a little ranty now, let me add an addendum to this list.

Can you seriously not name any women sf/f writers? Can you not name half a dozen? Can you not name a dozen?! Why not? Have you been reading under a rock? Do you exist in an information vacuum? Are you an sf/f reader, or aren't you?

Because when you ask that question in that way, you're going to get a bunch of people telling you the obvious names. And if you seriously have never heard of Le Guin, Willis, or Butler, you'd better be so new to reading sf/f that you haven't heard of Delany, Ellison, or Haldeman either..
