for some reason older taiwanese women seem to love me. ellen's mom is totally enamored with me even if there are myriad reasons that she shouldn't be. she insists i give her a hug every time i see her, which is more than she hugs her own daughter. granted, this might be due to the fact that i'm totally clueless when it comes to politely refusing

My theory? You are blond and blue-eyed and female, and thus, about as foreign as they come. Which makes you a magnet for curious, uninhibited people, including little old ladies.

She told you not to get a Taiwanese boyfriend? A cab driver there once told me I should marry a Taiwanese man so I could have happa babies, "because they're the most beautiful in the world." But then, I also heard a number of Taiwanese women complain about Taiwanese men, so maybe it's a gender thing?
