Star Trek - I loved it!

Probably most of you have no idea that I was kind of a trekkie in middle school, even earlier, starting when I was about 5 years old when the show was on prime time. It was our favorite show on TV at the time! (along with Batman). I had a model Enterprise that I built, and my older brother Bob and I would play Star Trek in the basement with our ( Read more... )

The time travel/parallel universe/black hole plotline confused me a little bit too. I still don't quite get why Nero blamed Older Spock for the demise of his planet. However, it was just such a fantastic film that even when I didn't get certain parts or references, it didn't matter.

McCoy was great, especially with Kirk. When McCoy kept injecting Kirk and made his hands balloon, I couldn't stop laughing.

Yes, that was so funny! And when Kirk turns around at one point after McCoy has injected him in the neck (for the upteenth time) he turns around and says "Stop that!" That's a classic Shatner line from the series - it got a big laugh in the audience!

I didn't realize that was a Shatner line. It's the little things like that I missed out on, not being a Trekkie, but it was still awesome.

We saw it last night with Ethan, and we're going to go back again with everyone, even 7-almost-8 year old Aidan because it was fairly mild except for a couple of cover-your-eyes moments.

Tom's an OS guy, but I'm TNG all the way, and have hooked the boys on TNG through the series and movies and on the OS through the movies.

FUN FOR ALL>

We laughed all the way through at all the in-jokes.

One of the ways Tom discovered I was a secret geek was my ST obsession.

My favorite parts were all the in jokes! I liked TNG, but I never watched it faithfully, but I did like it.

I wasn't a fan of the original because by the time I saw it, the look of it was so amateurish compared to say, Star Wars (yes, I know they are different mediums but I was under 10 years old). I also couldn't get past William Shatner and his cheesy intergalactic relatioships -- though I love Shatner and the way he spoofs himself now ( ... )

See? You think you know someone...

Will saw Wolverine and liked it, though I have no plans to see it.

I like that idea! Now it makes sense when you put it that way.

Because I had read a few reviews (fans and critics) beforehand, I didn't have a problem with the time-line changes and thought it was really clever because yes, while they are the same in essence, the past has been manipulated and their lives can take on a new course, allowing these movies to do what they want. It's like fan fic alternate universe! I mean, we all can totally appreciate that, right? I certainly think it's clever of them

Julie, as for the Chekov line... was Kirk captain when he said "Yes, sir"?

Yes, he was, or it was Pike he was talking to, but I remember thinking, whoever it was, he was Captain at the time.
