I first started using the Internet in my freshman year of college. That was, oh, 12 years ago this fall. I started using the Internet regularly in 2001 when I was given a code for a Live Journal account by a fellow Jump, Little Children fan. I started Memorial Weekend, 1995. I remember it vividly. My dad had just gotten Netcom Netcruiser and showed me how to get on to chat. Thus my introduction to Internet Relay Chat (IRC), through Netcom's server. (I didn't know about the different servers, chat clients, etc.) First I went on a channel (what they call chat rooms) called #penpals, as it was one of the first that came up on a list. No one seemed to friendly, so I found another, #Bible - as a Christian, I figured it would be cool! Well, I get on there and one of the first things I remember was someone saying, "I use the pages of the Bible to roll up a joint. You should try it sometime." OK, I knew there would be a few odd seeds so I stuck around. I remember telling someone I was from California and they replied, "I'm from Germany." I thought that was the coolest thing ( ... )
