any ideas on how to ask for a raise? I am tired of being poor. I am tired of complaining that I am poor. I am complaining about complaining. Ah well, the dream had to end sometime. Finding a job that makes me happy doesn't make me happy if I don't get paid well, so I think the choice between being happy in my job and being poor would be a ( Read more... )

Start looking for a new job regardless. You might find something better that pays better. Or, at the least, you'll get a better idea for what people with your skills and experience are making. Start making career contacts outside of your current positions. Feel free to PM me with your resume and I can help you tweak it, if you like.

I'm sorry you're bummed. I don't have much in the way of advice but I like what Steve suggested.

Hang in there and we'll be seeing you soon. At least that's something to distract you for a short while. Old friends coming to town for C4.

As I'm sure you know, I'm in the camp of sacrificing a fun job for a better life. While I sometimes envy those folks who are "living their dream" career-wise, I'm always going to work wherever I can make the most money in exchange for being able to have more cash to help me enjoy the time I DON'T spend at work. That's the whole purpose of a job to me.

Ask for a raise, it never hurts to ask.
Knowing what's out there and available in the job market never hurts either (and it's a great bargaining chip for when you want to say you really need that raise).

I'm in the exact same position.

I am tired of living with a roommate, but I can't afford a place by myself. I'd look for a better job, but I don't have the experience I need to be able to upgrade yet.

I've been wanting to ask for a raise myself ever since I hit a year as a full-timer back in February...

How about this, we pester each other to ask for a raise until we both do it. *laugh*
