I saw Magnetic Fields play at the Town Hall.  It was amazing and made me happy.  And discouraged.  I can't write songs like that.  Maybe someday I can.  But unfortunately, Stephin Merritt already wrote them.

You shouldn't write songs like that. You should write songs that sound like you wrote them. You are a beautiful person, and your expression, whatever it may be, is a treasure. SAY IT OUT LOUD!

Amen. Although not the song part, the Stephin Merritt writing part, because I'm pretty sure "Love is Like a Bottle of Gin" is the best poetry ever written. and not just because I like gin.
