Oh my goodness, starsandgraces just directed me this way, because I do live in the DC area, but it seems you've found her a place! She is so adorable! If the shelter doesn't work out, give me a holler and I will MAKE IT WORK.
Would you like her? I would so much rather give her directly to a good home! You just have to promise to spay her and give her all her shots.
She is SO sweet! Every time I go in to check on her, she just wants to nuzzle me to death. I can't get her to hold still, but her eyes are beautiful. One blue, one brown.
I would love her! Goodness, she even sounds so adorable. I'll have a chat with my dad about it, given that he is my roommate, but even if it turns out that I can't take her, I will do my absolute best to find her a home (and at least offer pay for her shots and to have her fixed for the person/family that takes her). Can you spare a day or two for me to double-check everything?
Oh, man, I really can't wait a few more days. I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow and all day monday, and I don't want to leave her locked up in the bathroom all that time. I kind of want to get her to a vet ASAP. She seems like she's in good health but, er, her bum doesn't look all that great.
Middle road: I was planning on taking her to the AWLA tomorrow morning. If you wait and adopt her from there, it's a hundred dollars, but it will include:
A certificate for a free exam with a participating veterinarian. Fees for other services performed will be paid by the adopter to the veterinary hospital. Spay/neuter surgery (Additional fees may apply under special circumstances.) A feline leukemia/feline AIDS test A distemper vaccination A personalized I.D. tag A microchip
That would give you enough time to get permission, and it would give her enough time to get checked out by a vet.
I was totally about to offer to help you look for a no kill shelter in the area, but I see you found one. I'm glad! All the folks I know around here who are cat-happy people already have at least one, if not several.
If not sooner -- the two colored eyes thing is rare and might be a selling point (lord knows I went "OOO" and were my cat not a total loner kitty, would likely be jumping at new cat opportunity).
