Hey, I saw you on the Doctor Horrible friending meme, and it seems like we have a couple of fandoms in common -- Daily Show/Colbert, BSG, Firefly, House. And, of course, sing-along blogging. Plus, your graphic skills look pretty awesome, and that's something I want to know more about.
To be quite honest I really like what you've done with your Lj layout and I was hoping that i could learn bit-by-bit from you/your lj. Among common interests I would say that i'm a dreamer/tom-boy environmentalist/sports fan :D
I'm totally willing to help! I'm learning S2 coding by trial and error, but it's been 4 years and I still learn something every time I change my layout. I'm the most familiar with the Opal Libra (OSWD) style, but can usually understand other styles if I delve into their source codes too.
There aren't enough dreamer/tom-boy/environmentalist/sports fans in the world. =P *adds*
Hey :) Thanks for the *add* and the offer to help ^^
I'm not familiar with Opal Libra (OSWD) style. Most of the layout designs I've come across are either flexible squares or smooth sailing or tranquility maybe even bloggish. Opal's new for me but looks like fun :) It's always exciting to learn something new :) What attracted me to your layout was the placement of the calendar in your top bar. I really really wanna know how you did that! I might become a regular prowler among your layout tuts :P
The calendar in the top bar was a relatively recent brainstorm of mine. I just re-uploaded the theme layer code I used here. And when I wrote the code, I tried to include little things to help people figure out what does what.
Opal, in general, is a difficult style to code for (especially for those not with Paid/Perm accounts) unless you delve deep into S2. It was originally one of the styles that was only available for Paid/Perm users and, unfortunately, when they allowed all to access it they didn't do anything to make it easily customizable. That's why most people using it are still Paid/Perm users with access to Advanced Customization.
But, that said, it's a relatively simple source code since it's not all jazzed up. However, it does by default have 2 tables nested inside one another, so it's rather annoying to work with (unless you remove the tables, like I did in that theme layer I linked to earlier).

Yep, I'm in Michigan. Lived in northern Idaho for a bit but found my way back here.
And of course you can friend me. I need more Red Wings (or hockey fans in general) on my flist. =D
