When I was a kid there were a couple times I fainted - during periods of pronounced emotional duress, like I was an opossum playing dead or something. There was absolutely no dreaming - just coming to and feeling groggy. It was disorienting, of course, but the uncertainty over how much time I had lost bothered me. Was I out for just a few seconds, or was it minutes?

I only actually fainted once, when I was 19 years old and donated blood after not eating all day. I've come close a couple of other times, especially after starting nursing school. I almost passed out watching a circumcision on a newborn.
