Okay, got my PS3 online too. Screen name is Rob_Thorsman, so feel free to add me. Also, I'm probably going to purchase FFXI for XBox 360 soon. So, does anyone want to give me their screen names or tell me how to get on whichever server I need to be on? I don't know much about it, so I'll be a newb. Do I need a keyboard? Is there anything special I ( Read more... )

When you set up your character, you'll be asked to choose a server to play on. I'm on Alexander, though the rest of the Pokeboarders are on Gilgamesh. I'd be more than willing to help you out and hook you up with my linkshell if you want to come to Alexander, and I'm sure there are plenty of boaders on Gilgamesh would be happy to help you out if you go there. Keyboards are nice, I play the PC version, so that's the default for me. You might want to try out the 360 control scheme and see if that works for you or not. The wiki is a great resource to have bookmarked. Give it a look over and ask any questions you get. Other than that, the best way to learn is to jump in and start playing...preferably with a more experienced player on hand to answer questions and give advice. =)

I think I remember hearing that server selection isn't random anymore, and they did away with regular world passes. They still have gold ones of course, for the nifty bonus items~

The weird thing was that gold world passes were *cheaper* than regular ones, or at least they were whenever I looked. A set rate of 1000 gil, while the standard ones varied (based on server population? not sure.).

World passes are a thing of the past. ElForto is pretty much deceased by now, and its members were absorbed into GONE. I quit for 7 months last July, came back and the LS was almost always completely empty.

But the Pokeboarder contingent stopped playing about a year ago, mostly. Still, I'm on Gilgamesh, by the name of Zarchery, if you start playing. ElForto still exists, in a way, although it is usually pretty lonely. I could pearl you and show you the ropes.

Oh, and most importantly, know that soloing is often quite difficult once you get past, like, level 20. The game is extremely teamwork oriented. Still, some jobs, like Beastmaster, Blue Mage, or Red Mage, solo better than others. You'll always get optimal results by grouping though.
