Perhaps it was divine intervention, or a simple timely coincidence, but whatever the case, Chizuru could not have had any better luck than she was experiencing at this very moment. Of course, most normal people would not think so optimistically about such an occurance. A hospital was still a hospital, an accident still an accident and being in a hospital due to an accident was not what would typically be considered lucky. However, in Chizuru's case, it was as though the powers that be, the gods of forbidden love, the strings of fate, whichever way she chose to look at it had brought her the best get well gift ever.
Inoue Orihime was laying in the next bed over when Chizuru woke up from a mid-afternoon nap. She wanted to squeal, wanted to jump out of bed and cling to Orihime, however Dr. Ishida stepped into the room before she could get further than sitting up. He quietly made some notes on Orihime's chart then glanced over at Chizuru before leaving the room once more.
Chizuru was not surprised by how quiet the doctor was, after all, she was in the same class as his son. As far as she could tell, they were like two peas in a pod. She wondered what their home life was like, though her thoughts quickly strayed from pondering whether they got along and had family dinners together to whether or not Dr. Ishida had a sordid romance with another male doctor. The more she thought about it, it seemed unlikely that any of the other doctors she'd seen in and out over the past couple of days would be his type.
Stars gleamed in Chizuru's eyes as she recalled the tension between Uryuu and Ichigo that she'd witnessed in class, and the fact that Ichigo's father had his own clinic. She'd been there a few times in the past, and recalling Dr Kurosaki, she decided that the reason for the tension between her classmates was due to the realization that their fathers were involved in a torrid affair that made their own budding interest in each other rather distressing.
"Chizuru-chan?" a voice sounded, tearing Chizuru away from her forbidden love fantasy. She glanced over at the bed next to her and grinned from ear to ear.
"Orihime-chan, you're awake! Are you okay, what happened? I was asleep when the doctors brought you in." Chizuru's grin turned to a worried frown and she leaned closer toward Orihime, attempting to close part of the large gap between their beds.
Orihime paused for a minute before replying, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. "I'm not entirely sure. I was crossing the street and then next thing I knew I was waking up in a lot of pain. The doctors said something about a hit and run, but I don't remember a car coming my way."
"Do you know how long you'll be here for?" Chizuru was torn between concern for her friend's welfare and glee over the fact that she had Orihime all to herself without Tatsuki to interfere. Even if Tatsuki did come to visit, she would not be allowed to stay after visiting hours eneded, and at that point, Orihime would really be all hers.
"A couple of days, maybe a week? They mentioned something about a concussion. I didn't break any bones though." Orihime smiled, pleased that it wasn't any worse. "What are you here for?"
"It doesn't matter. I'll be fine and out of here in a few days." Chizuru knew if she told Orihime about the surgery she'd had, she would only worry about it.
The two girls talked for hours until one of the nurses peeked in to inform them it was lights out and that they ought to get some sleep. Chizuru laid in bed watching Orihime sleep until she herself drifted off, visions of Orihime's large breasts dancing in her head.

Tatsuki came to visit Orihime the next day after practice let out. She noticed Chizuru the minute she walked in the door, sitting annoyingly close to Orihime, fluttering eyelashes and shamelessly flirting. Not that Orihime seemed to take notice of the other girl's lewd advances. Tatsuki took a deep breath and walked into the room, setting a shopping bag on Orihime's lap and shooting a menacing glare in Chizuru's direction.
"Hey," Tatsuki said, sitting on the edge of the bed near Orihime's leg, "I thought the food here wouldn't be to your taste, so I made some of your favorites." She'd cringed a little while combining the mismatched ingredients, ignoring the strange smells and textures they created. Granted, she'd tried most of them before and they didn't taste nearly as bad as they logically should.
Orihime grinned widely at her best friend and opened the bag. Her eyes glittered with excitement as she looked over the array of snacks neatly arranged inside a colorful bento box. "Thanks, Tatsuki!" she said, leaning forward and pulling her into a crushing hug. Tatsuki could feel Chizuru's eyes burning with jealous rage and she couldn't help the smug grin that crossed her lips. The only thing keeping her from physically kicking Chizuru off the bed and across the room was that Chizuru was a patient in the hospital, too.
"Orihime, I can't breathe," Tatsuki gasped. Of course she could breathe, however, recently hugs from Orihime left her rather frustrated. She knew Orihime was too naïve to pick up on her changing feelings and did not want to risk straining their friendship over it. Especially not while Orihime was sharing a hospital room with Chizuru.

Tatsuki didn't leave the hospital until the nurses kicked her out twenty-five minutes after the end of visiting hours. Leaving Orihime alone, unprotected with that lecherous classmate of theirs worried her and she struggled to sleep.
Like a zombie, Tatsuki managed to make it through school the following day, her mind on the hospital room and the two girls who occupied it. None of her teachers called on her during classes and as soon as the final bell rang, she was racing to change into her street shoes. She had no practice that afternoon and carrying another bento box full off odd treats for Orihime, Tatsuki made her way to the hospital.
Once again, Chizuru was too close to Orihime for Tatsuki's comfort and Orihime was once again oblivious to the megane's advances. The after school visits continued like this for the rest of the week - the two romantic rivals vying for Orihime's attention. The weekend arrived and with it Chizuru was discharged Friday afternoon and Orihime on Saturday afternoon.
One of the nurses called Tatsuki aside as the two girls were preparing to leave the hospital. "As I am certain that you are well aware, Inoue-chan lives alone. She's shown no signs of problems over this week, however, it would put myself and the rest of my staff at ease if she were not left alone for the next couple of nights." She handed Tatsuki a card, "There's the number for our floor's nurse's station. Should any problems arise, please contact that number and one of my staff will be glad to help."
"I'll take good care of her," Tatsuki said with a nod and tucked the card into her school bag. She waved at the nurse as she walked away to join Orihime. The nurse's request was unneeded as Tatsuki had already planned on staying over at Orihime's tonight.

Once settled in back at home, Orihime wandered off to the kitchen. "You hungry, Tatsuki? I'll fix dinner," she called out, glancing over her shoulder as she spoke.
"Sure," Tatsuki replied. She was nervous despite the fact that they'd done this hundreds of times over the past few years - staying the night and eating Orihime's strange concoctions was nothing out of the norm for her. She was protector of Orhime's chastity and virtue as well as her best friend, and here she was contemplating being the one to taint her innocence.
As much as Orihime was oblivious to certain things, she was certainly not unobservant. When she returned to the table with their food, she noticed Tatsuki's nervousness. "Tatsuki? I'm all right now. You don't have to worry. A car isn't going to get me in my apartment. I don't even think they can make it to the second floor in anything other than the movies." Orihime smiled reassuringly and reached across the table to give her friend's hand a gentle squeeze.
Tatsuki leaned forward and laughed, covering her mouth with one hand and looking down at the table. "I wasn't worried about that -- or anything," she quickly added and looked up with a smile. Some of the tension that had been plaguing her moments before had dissipated and she began poking around at the food on her plate with a fork. "What is this supposed to be?"
"Baked potatoes." Orihime beamed.
Tatsuki raised an eyebrow and looked at the fully loaded potato complete with chopped up boiled octopus, cabbage, mayo, avocado, leeks, and red bean paste. Distracting herself by watching Orihime happily eating her supper, Tatsuki managed to finish her own.

After dinner, they spent the rest of the evening chatting and watching television. Tatsuki, normally never lacking in courage, worked on building it up to confess her feelings to Orihime. Before she knew it, they were dressed for bed, curled up under the blankets on Orihime's futon.
"Orihime?" Tatsuki started to ask, chickening out before she could even start her confession. "Uh..." She nervously wrung her hands together over the top of the blankets, unable to look at her best friend.
"What is it, Tatsuki?" came a concerned reply.
"Oh, um... I was just wondering if..." Get it together, Tatsuki, she thought to herself. "If Chizuru did anything really weird while you were in the hospital."
"I heard her mumbling something to herself about Dr Ishida and Dr Kurosaki playing doctor together... but I don't know why they'd need to play doctor when they're both already doctors."
Tatsuki laughed. "That isn't want I meant. Did she do anything weird to you?"
"Like what?" Orihime turned to look at Tatsuki, confusion evident on her face.
Taking a deep breath, Tatsuki closed her eyes and leaned forward. "Like this..." she said before pressing her lips to Orihime's. She froze in place seconds later, unsure of whether to pull away or not. Orihime hadn't pushed her away, but she hadn't made any response at all. Sighing, Tatsuki pulled away, not bothering to open her eyes. She was afraid to see any sort of negative reaction on her friend's face.
After a long pause, Orihime finally spoke. "I don't think that's weird, but no, Chizuru didn't try anything like that."
"Okay, good," Tatsuki replied, and rolled onto her side, facing away from Orihime, her cheeks flushed pink with embarrassment. She was supposed to be the strong one, not the the blushing school girl. "Well, good night."
"Tatsuki?" Orihime whispered, looking up at the ceiling. A deep blush spread across her cheeks as she spoke. "If you wanted to do that, you didn't have to ask if Chizuru had done it."
It took a moment for the gravity of Orihime's words to sink in. "You wouldn't have minded?"
"I would have liked it very much." Orihime paused before continuing, "I had hoped you would have tried it sooner."
Orihime's words took Tatsuki by surprise - obviously she had misjudged her friend's naïveté - at the very least when it came to her. "Sorry," she replied. Tatsuki rolled to face Orihime and pressed their lips together again, one hand brushing the hair out of Orihime's eyes and the other sliding down to her waist. Quietly, she whispered against her lips, "I won't make you wait any more."
