The Name of the Training is the Hurricane [Open Thread]

The Titans Tower training grounds didn't quite see as much traffic as they did in their heyday. Oh, they still got used, but nowhere near as frequently. Hopefully today would bring about a change to that. It had been a while since the offer had been extended, but Terra had not forgotten that she said she would love to help Silvermane train. That ( Read more... )

One of the best things about training with someone who also had elemental powers was the knowledge that it didn't matter how odd the powers were - someone like Terra understood, even if hers were of a different element. Metal and earth were similar enough, though, so the training session would get interesting.

Silvermane had brought some metal with her, unsure of what exactly was on the training grounds...and also because she was fairly sure that smashing up things on the Titans' training grounds might be a social faux pas. Either that, or Silvermane was totally wrong and it was a perfectly common occurence. But she still preferred to bring her own equipment.

Smiling in greeting when she met up with Terra, she set down the large sheets of thick, potent metal.

"Um...so...w-was there any particular way y-you wanted to start?" she asked.

More similar than Terra knew. Or, well, if she ever talked with Toph again, she might discover that firsthand. But oh well.

If smashing up the training ground were a social faux pas, Terra was veritably gauche. But she still grinned when she saw that Silvermane had come prepared. "Nothing really comes to mind. Normally we just use our powers on the robots," which were all out of sight right now, their appearance being controlled by a console on a nearby ledge, "but I think with your powers, giving you robots to fight would just be too easy. I'm not sure if I can do the same thing with rocks for too long, but if you like that idea, I can see what I can do."

Terra did have a point. For Silvermane, fighting robots would be incredibly easy. Fling, fling, dismantle, and done. That's roughly how it would go. Though, training didn't necessarily have to be combative to have value. In this case, however, it had its merit...if only because it forced one to react.

The only way Silvermane could think of for putting her own powers to the limit was going to an automobile junkyard and seeing how much she could lift at once. She already knew she could lift at least one car at a time without it being tremendously difficult. In truth, she'd never really cut loose. Her sense of personal responsibility towards others wouldn't let her.

"S-sure," said Silvermane with a nod. "Or um...w-we could always spar - set rules for when we s-stop and stuff, so that nobody g-gets really hurt."

Maybe if Terra were a bit better at this whole leadership thing, she'd have picked up on the noncombative benefits of training with the standard course. Then again, she also had experience with sparring, and she was surprised she hadn't come up with that first. "I've sparred before. With another Earthbender," she said with a little upturn of her lips, "but still sparring. It's a good way to test what you can do, actually. Or find out what you can do. Gets you thinking on your feet." She wasn't sure why she was explaining this all, since she was sure Silvermane already knew.

"Okay, so what were you thinking rules-wise?" she asked, having signed on to the sparring idea. "Nothing bigger than a breadbox? No hitting below the belt?"
