Bob Moog wasn't the inventor of the synthesizer.
The credit for inventing the electronic synthesizers is split between many pioneers including :- Leo Theremin, Harald Bode and others, whose work was in turn based on stuff going right back in history .

He made his own electronic sound device and later with Herb Deutsch, they put together the basics for a moduilar synthesizer.
Almost by accident building modular synths became a business.
The Minimoog (designed by bob moog) was the first synth to be available to the public in music shops in 1971. It defined the format and architecture of the analog synthesizer. It is still one of the most sought after instruments even today.
Bob moog is the 'father of modern synthesis' and as such to anyone interested in electronic music his loss is very sad.
