Today marks my second attempt at cycling to work in "Heavy Rain", in 2011. This time: minus fluorescent jacket but PLUS massive green poncho; also PLUS waterproof overshoes; PLUS extra pair of pants (I have a mudguard but my "ergonomic" saddle has an invoncenient hole right down the middle

I respect the courage of anyone willing to ride a bicycle on the streets of London even in the best weather.

Ah, you get used to it. At first your brain freaks out about all the hazards around you, but they become predictable so you can scale down on the old hyper-vigilance after a while. I'm more in awe of people who actually drive delivery vans and tour buses through those heavily congested streets!
