I was reminded this weekend why I love Southwest Airlines flight attendants. They're just so fucking funny. Anyone who can laugh at security regulations is cool in my book. What is not cool, of course, is the fact that they managed to break both my suitcases so now I'm going to need a new one before I leave for Ireland. Grrrrrr ( Read more... )

my laptop isn't working as well as it used to. i probably nowhere near getting a new one, but i'm starting to think about it. how hard is it to swtich from a pc to a mac?

that depends on a lot of things. I think the main thing that makes Macs so expensive is that Macintosh has the market. You can't get Macs from other deals. But with x86 laptops (non Mac), you have so many options of sellers, and hardware. PCs are easier to maintain and they have more software for them.

Performance and sexyness go to the Mac, but they are definitely more expensive overall. I got my Dell 600m with a 1.4 Ghz Pentium M with Centrino, 512 DDR RAM, internal wireless, SXGA+ (high res), 14.1" screen, and... well, it MORE than gets the job done.

Also, keep in mind there are many ways to skin windows XP. If it's a feel of the O/S GUI, you can modify it as you please fairly well with Windows XP.

And most hard disks these days are very reliable. Yours was beyond me though. Either there were actually bad sectors, or the computer just had trouble doing I/O. I mean, what did your laptop in at the end? Maybe you finally had a head crash. I'm not sure how they keep laptop hard disks and iPods and shit from not moving around. They're not solid state, but disks with movinb parts must be kept from moving aroudn too much. If the disk head touches a platter, you're extremely fucked.

But I digress. Compaq/HP sucks balls.
