have you tried using the GIMP? it's an image manipulation program that's free and open-source. while it's a little difficult to get the hang of at first, it's almost as powerful as adobe photoshop and well worth the learning curve.
in icon news, #9 is hilarious.

Lemmie say this right now- constructive criticism is ALWAYS ok! I like to know what people think! As long as your not totally bashing it all, and it's really constructive criticism, go right ahead!
The first one wasn't done very well, I admit. It's the first icon I've ever tried making myself. The other one, however, is actually just like that. It looks a little odd, but if you gop to the actual screen cap it's the same sort of look. It's just the odd way he's holding his head.
