[Sneasle isn't exactly in great shape, and it is indeed visible as Aya's carrying her in her arms while they hide as best as they can. There's tall grass and a ledge, a tree not far off. What a terrible time to arrive in Route! She had managed to find a place to get down low out of sight for the moment, but it was a long way to Cherrygrove and the ( Read more... )

[Oh, no. That couldn't be--

Mamoru stares. He doesn't realize he's activated the callback function thanks to his incredulity.]

Aya Fujimiya... This is bad.

[Oh yes, it is, and she totally just heard her name as she's running with her bag over her shoulder, gear in hand. It would take her three days at a normal pace to reach Cherrygrove, but with Pokemon on her heels like this she might just get there in two or one and a half, assuming she didn't get a chance to stop for rest.]

No kidding! But how exactly do you know my name?

[ARE YOU THE ONE THAT BROUGHT ME HERE?]

Eh-?

[What? Oh no, he didn't. Did he seriously?

He did. Crap.]

[Right. Composure. This is too important to be fumbling.]

That's a long story. Keep running towards Cherrygrove City. Help is on the way.

[You don't have to tell her twice, she'll definitely keep running, but--]

Well, not to be rude, but seeing as I have nothing but time right now-- [RUNNING FOR MY LIFE.] --maybe it's the best time to tell me that story?

[And oh God so relieved, help is on the way, as long as that's not a trap!] Thanks, by the way, in advance!

No. I don't think it is. The short version is I know your brother. Unfortunately, that will have to suffice for you.

[He switches to voice then and puts the Pokégear in his shirt pocket so he can get some things together and talk hands-free.]

My name is Mamoru Takatori. I apologize for the lopsided introduction.

No, that's fine!

[How long can she keep this up, she wonders? For now she just focuses. Sneasel is counting on her too, after all. She follows Mamoru's example for the sake of ease, and because he really doesn't need to see everything going on right then. She breezes past more Yanma that are attacking anything just to vent their rage, trees, bushes, headbutting things, biting them, poison stinging them, it's not even logical!]

Under normal circumstances I'd probably say it's nice to "meet" you, but I'll have to save that for if we meet face to face! Can you tell me how I got here? This is a video game-- [She'd have to stop talking in big bursts after this.] --isn't it?

[Bless her heart. Mamoru hadn't missed that her Pokémon was already out for the count and she was taking a fair few hits herself. He's halfway through getting his things together before it occurs to him that he really shouldn't be. It's safer to stay inside. What benefit was there to running into the middle of that chaos for the sake of a girl who was not even family? Would her brother even allow him to help?

Mamoru stops and shuts his eyes to push back the thoughts of Ouka that threaten to take over. He shouldn't be getting out in this mess. He knows he shouldn't. But...

Aya.

Of all the people that could possibly show up... Mamoru shakes himself from idleness and continues to pack. For her, the treasured sister of the man he admires more than any other, for just her... he'll make an exception.

He doesn't think he'll ever be able to face her brother again if he doesn't at least try.]I'm afraid no one is quite sure how this has happened. You're correct that we're effectively inside a video game, with no choice but to play the role ( ... )

[She faultered, almost tripping over her own two feet at that.] Ran...? Onii-chan is here?!

[She takes a moment to catch her breath, then she's running again with renewed determination. To see Ran, she didn't want to have to be rescued constantly, but to see Ran just this once she could be a little grateful for the circumstances. How long had it been now? To her, who has been in a coma for two years and then six months after waking up has not seen her brother-- she couldn't really ask for more than that, even if this was a nightmare.]

Yes. [Mamoru's voice remains soft and level.] Although...

[A pause.]

Aya-san. I understand this may seem an odd question, but what year is it?

[Oh, Mamoru, compared to the scene that she's leaving in New Bark Town you might as well be asking her what her favorite color is.]

Nineteen-nintey-nine.

[She answers, stopping to duck behind a patch of grass as several Ledyba go flying past overhead, holding her breath. It's not until they've gone that she peeks out again and resumes her trek, pushing through the grassand trying not to attract any wild Pokemon. They're probably all hiding from the vicious swarms too though, honestly.]

[Long silence.]

I see.

[Does that sound ominous to you, Aya?]

[... Yes. Yes it does. YOU ARE CREEPING ME OUT OKAY. THIS IS CREEPY ENOUGH WITH THIS STUPID CHEERFUL MUSIC WHILE THIS PLACE IS IN CHAOS JUST-- WHAT. IS. THIS. Line face. FOREVER. Not that you can see it.]

Takatori-san...? Why do you ask? [NOW she wants to know.]

[Another shorter span of silence.]

I'm sorry. But it would probably be best for you to know this now, wouldn't it? This world is strange. As far as its captives are concerned, it isn't bound by the laws of time. Your brother... is several years older than you know him to be. For him... the year is 2004.

[She'll wait till you make up your mind, but she'll have to keep running while she waits of course. It's safe to assume that she'll keep it up till her legs either give out or her lungs can't keep up with the pace any longer.]

[Well, that's strange, but... wait, what does that mean?]

When was... the last time I saw him-- or vice versa --in your... timeline? [Does the future me actually get to see her brother? Does Ran allow himself to see his sister instead of keeping himself distanced? Is he still...]

You should focus your breath on running. It seems I'm taking too much of it upholding conversation. Please keep moving towards Cherrygrove City. You'll have help as soon as it can reach you. Take care, Aya-san.
