At this point, I kind of think June has "reciprocation of love" confused with "power over." She's been nothing but competitive towards Carrie, completely disrespectful of the bonds Carrie has with her husband/June's BF, perfectly willing to second-guess Carrie's motives AND keep a scorecard on looks, baking ability and assignation of men, but now that Carrie has basically said "June, please don't reject me, I need your approval" everything's alright with the world again

I don't want to say too much since the story has a bit to go--and I don't want to force author interpretation on the reader--but I do want to mention that "love heals all wounds" isn't the message I had in mind; my perspective is on a different angle.
