[Background]
Dojima’s lived in Inaba, a small countryside town, his whole life, as a detective. He was once happily married with a daughter (Nanako Dojima), until his wife Chisato was killed in a hit-and-run. He had been living alone with Nanako for a few years, until called up by his sister for a favor; to house and take care of his nephew, Souji Seta, for a year. Over the course of that time, Dojima is working on a peculiar murder case with his (clumsy and useless) partner Tohru Adachi, while also gradually opening up to Souji through the hierophant social link (Souji’s connection with Dojima).
Throughout the case, Dojima is lead many ways, all of them leading practically nowhere. Until the confession of Mitsuo, this fizzles out to be a copycat case anyway; though he’s the only one who continues to study the case regardless. It leads him to Taro Namatame, who is not the killer after all, but is the kidnapper behind the random disappearances. He chases him down when he kidnaps Nanako, ending up in a car accident and becoming hospitalized. It’s then that he realizes he doesn’t hold the ability to track down Namatame and save his daughter; so he leaves it to his nephew and friends, despite his doubts. They bring Namatame back, as well as Nanako, who ends up hospitalized as well. She almost dies; but miraculously comes back. Shortly after this, his nephew’s Investigation Team is led to finding out the true killer; Tohru Adachi. Dojima again trusts them all to find him. And as his well-placed faith would have it, they succeed, and Adachi is arrested. A few months later, Dojima sees his nephew off, Inaba at peace again, reassuring his nephew he will always have a home with them.
[Personality]
Being on the police force, Dojima is a guy naturally rough around the edges. If going by looks, he fits the profile of your typical scruffy detective. However, when it comes down to it, Dojima’s actually holds in a lot of emotions. He never got over the death of his wife, holding on to the guilt he feels for not solving her case. He spends a lot of time working on it, and neglecting his daughter to study it rather than spend time with her. And he does it knowingly; he feels he can’t face her in his fear of losing another person he loves. By the end of his social link, however, he learns to face himself and his family. Dojima accepts the fact that he can’t keep running; that he can balance justice (solving his wife’s murder) and family. Outwardly he’s still angry and defensive, but it’s out of care and worry. Dojima isn’t exactly the type of guy to handle his emotions the right way, as you can see. However, he does have a sense of humor, seen as the main character becomes closer to uncle. He jokes around a lot with him, and handles Souji’s own jokes well. At first he’s almost socially awkward with his nephew, the habits of his work clearly seen in his demeanor with Souji. When it comes to his partner Adachi, he always comes off as callous and degrading. Though Adachi does stop by the Dojima residence quite often, where Dojima is hospitable... if a little harsh about it. By the end, however, when Adachi is revealed as the killer and brought back from the TV world, he sends him an ambulance as a special request, it said that Dojima wanted him taken carefully into protective custody. A part of him may still acknowledge Adachi as his (ex-) partner, and perhaps he feels he was too harsh; though that’s the last Dojima really speaks of him.
[Specialties/Abilities] DETECTIVE'S INTUITION.
[Affection] Being widowed with a kid, he's not about to jump into a relationship, especially since he's still emo weighed down by his wife's murder. If someone came on to him, he'd probably politely decline them (after spazzing a little). Perhaps if he got to know them, though, it wouldn't be so unlikely; though he's not a man of impulse when it comes to this, and would probably take a lot of time to give it thought.
[Fighting] Fighting is fine, injury... uh, to a degree I guess? I imagine Dojima has some basic combat training and all, not to mention a police issued gun. He wouldn't invoke any fights though. ... Don't kill him please. )8
[Other Facts] Needs his coffee. Or else face the wrath of Dojira-san.
