夢 // 001 // Only In Dreams
It was a normal enough day. No work, Nanako was at school. Just Dojima, his coffee, and a newspaper. How could this go wrong? Well... There was the usual, prominent articles; 'Murderer caught!' and 'Killer right under their noses!' But Dojima was used to those by now. ...Right?
With a groan, Dojima just closed the paper and pushed it aside, rubbing his temples.
"You're not just going to ignore it, are you, Dojima-san?" A voice said, breaking the silence from beside him. He jumped, looking around, but there was no one. But he knew that voice too well... "C'mon Dojima-san, I'm right here. Right under your nose."
Dojima looked down, staring disbelievingly at the newspaper. Did it just talk?
"Tch--Newspapers don't talk!" the detective shouted, jumping up from his chair. And it laughed at him. The laugh was bordering the familiar, dopey laugh he often heard back in the day, but on second thought, he realized it was much more venomous than that.
"Oh? And rookie partners don't commit murder, right?"
And even Dojima had to admit, the newspaper had him there. Or was it Adachi? Was his vision not right the first time? He could've sworn just now that his ex-partner was sitting across the table, unreadable expression on his face, aside from a twisted grin.
But just as suddenly, Adachi's face was cheerful again, and with another, more innocent laugh, he leaned back in his chair, hands behind his head.
"Get real, right? That stuff only happens in dreams. Better wake up!"

And Dojima did, jolting from his bed. He already figures what caused that kind of dream. Sighing, he throws his feet over the side of the bed, groggily rubbing his face.
And this still isn't his bed at home. Ugh.
"...I need some coffee."
