The path of crumbs led the two detectives out of the station. It curled around the building and down the sidewalk to a dark alleyway; the very kind you see in detective movies, where you turn the corner and find the culprit...
"I-I dunno about this, sir. Can't we just get a new box of donuts..?" Adachi stammered, lagging behind Dojima. The older detective stopped and turned to him.
"And get those stolen too?! Adachi, the station isn't going to do anything about this!" Dojima's voice was gradually raising at the rookie. "It's up to you and me to find who's behind it!"
The younger detective shifted where he stood, rubbing the back of his head. But before Adachi could say anything, Dojima turned the corner down the alley. "H-hey, wait! Dojima-san!" The footsteps followed behind, before skidding to a stop as he caught up, staring down the alley over Dojima's shoulder. "T-this is..."
Dojima slid his sunglasses off, surveying the scene before him with an intense stare.
"What in the hell..?"
