thats a pretty fucked up shirt, and i like to joke.

i was watching this movie today, the way we were. i dont think i saw it the way you are supposed to see it, but the girl is very serious and political and the guys friends are jerks making fun of eleanor roosevelt when her husband dies. they are always making nasty jokes and he gets mad because she cant keep her mouth shut.

i dunno, people hide behind "it was a joke". its hard to say where the lines are exactly but this definitely did cross it. also people hide behind "i am not political" or "you are too serious". i am not as ridiculous as my parents who make everything about politics but you cant ignore it either. doing so just promotes the status quo.. as well as being mean, hurting people's feelings, and discouraging communication.

i am not surprised the manager was spanish, either. machismo still rules in a lot of spanish cultures.

Just wanted to say good for you for bringing the offensiveness of the shirt to someone's attention. I am often horrified by the "joking" shirts I see people wearing, but I'm usually too stunned to say anything.

I think t-shirts like that help us weed out the idiots from the pack without actually having to talk to them. :)
