In  a lifetime of odd and oftentimes unfortunate experiences, I've hit a new level: Having my childhood shrink committed to a psych. ward.

He actually called my estranged parents, looking for me. They in turn, to be spiteful, gave him my inlaws' number, and they passed it along to me. We had kept in touch sporadically over the years, including his attending my wedding.

The man is a genius who once lectured at Harvard, but has bipolar disorder. The last time we got together, in the winter of 2007, he was out on disability due to the depression.

What I saw the other night was textbook mania.

I ask you as an English teacher, is this an example of iron?

It also reminds me of the cliche that the reason people go into psychology, social work or any field that can lead to being a therapist is to work through their own psychological demons.
