Jae Joong’s Gift
~;~
Kim Jae Joong knew he was a lucky guy from the moment Jung Yun Ho first approached him. He knew he was even luckier when Yun Ho asked him out on a date; and when Yun Ho fell for his innocence and his quiet demeanor, and asked him to be his boyfriend, he knew that he was the luckiest guy in the world.
He was lucky, he knew it; but he was also aware of the fact that his memory was most certainly not as great as his luck…
Jae Joong buried his hands deep into the pockets of his jacket as he muttered unintelligible words to himself under his breath, cursing his insufferable memory.
“How could I forget?!” he yelled, slapping his hand against his forehead, momentarily drawing the attention of the little few whom he happened to pass by to himself. “Today was supposed to be perfect…”
He stopped in his tracks to look around and saw that most of the shops were closed for the holidays.
Jae Joong sighed.
Why wouldn’t they be closed, though? It was Christmas, after all. Not to mention today marks a hundred days since Yun Ho and I first started dating; his mind bitterly added.
He meandered over to a nearby bench where he sat down and moped and brooded. He was supposed to meet Yun Ho in less than half an hour, but could he really go empty handed? Yun Ho would probably tell him that it was alright, that he didn’t mind; but that would only make Jae Joong feel worse.
Just then, the light in Jae Joong’s eyes shimmered with a renewed enthusiasm, and he grew determined afresh. Standing up in a jolt, pumping his right fist in the air, and ignoring those who stared, he cheered to himself, “I’m not giving up! Yun Ho’s getting a present and that’s that!”
Seconds into his self pep talk, he heard a rather familiar voice call out to him, which made his head turn in a splice of curiosity and confusion. A big smile crept its way onto Jae Joong’s lips, and he couldn’t help but launch himself at the one he had just seen.
“Si Won!” Jae Joong exclaimed happily, latching himself onto the aforementioned male, “I haven’t seen you in thirty years!”
“J-Jae…” Si Won managed as he struggled to maintain his balance. As soon as he was sure he wasn’t in any danger of skidding, he hugged the other male back, “We’re only sixteen, so you couldn’t have last seen me thirty years ago. Also, we just saw each other yesterday.”
“It’s called a hyperbole.” Jae Joong explained as he drew away from the taller male, pouting slightly.
“It’s not a good hyperbole.” Si Won chuckled, and Jae Joong frowned. “What are you doing here, anyway?”
“I don’t know. What are you doing here?”
“I asked first.”
Jae Joong let his breath out with a whoosh and crossed his arms, “Fine. I came here to see if any shops were open because, curse my memory, I forgot that I didn’t buy Yun Ho a gift for our hundredth day anniversary, or Christmas, for that matter and I’m in desperate need of finding him one in under thirty minutes. Your turn.”
Si Won shrugged and pursed his lips before answering Jae Joong with a simple, “I went out to buy more soda. We ran out.”
“Soda…” Jae Joong repeated and trailed off for a moment, looking into the distance, and had he had a beard, he would have been stroking it by now. Si Won eyed him questioningly and jumped slightly when Jae Joong suddenly averted his gaze directly to him. “Would soda be a horrible present to receive as an anniversary-slash-Christmas gift?”
“Yes.” Si Won did not hesitate to nod, and looked at Jae Joong with a question mark on his face, “You weren’t considering giving soda to Yun Ho, were you?”
“I might have been considering it.” Jae Joong huffed, crossing his arms once more. Si Won began to laugh. “I’m desperate, okay? I can’t find any shops open in this stupid shopping center. Well, except for convenience stores and restaurants, but they don’t count.”
“Well, there is one store that’s open…” Si Won told him, rubbing the back of his neck, feeling all of a sudden embarrassed.
Jae Joong, however, missed Si Won’s embarrassment and quickly jumped on him, “Really? Which store is it?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think you’d like it…”
“I don’t care if it’s a hardware store that sells nothing but plumbing supplies. I need to buy Yun Ho a gift and I need to buy it now!” Jae Joong demanded, and Si Won finally relented.
“All right, fine! But it’s not my fault if you get all uncomfortable and shit.” Si Won warned, but Jae Joong really didn’t care at the moment.
“Okay, okay, I won’t. Now take me there!” Si Won sighed and grabbed Jae Joong by the wrist, leading him in the direction of the only open shop in the entire shopping center.
~;~
“‘Chang Min’s BDSM-ery’?” Jae Joong read the name of the only available shop out loud; head tilted slightly, lips pursed.
Si Won buried his face in his hands in shame and shook his head, regretting ever telling Jae Joong about the place. “I told you that you wouldn’t like it!” he yelled, his words were muffled slightly in his hands, but were still clear enough to understand.
Jae Joong ignored Si Won and proceeded to ask, “What is BDSM? I’ve heard people mention it quite a lot, but I never really knew…”
Si Won dropped his hands as his mouth hung agape. He stared at Jae Joong incredulously; not sure if the latter was trolling him, or if he was seriously just that clueless. “You seriously don’t know?”
Jae Joong shook his head. He opened his mouth, ready to say something in reply, when suddenly he felt a hand upon his shoulder. He turned around and found a man, a really tall man, about in his early twenties, behind him. The man had tanned skin and his hair looked like a messy bird’s nest. His lips where slightly lopsided and his eyes were somehow mismatched - strangely though, it made a good combination. On that guy, at least.
“So I see you two have found my store.” The man spoke, and Si Won defensively shook his head.
“We were just passing by. Actually, we were just leaving, right Jae?”
Jae Joong stared at Si Won with a question mark in his face and immediately contradicted the other’s words, “What are you talking about? We were just about to enter!”
“That’s a good boy.” The tall man, who, judging by his words and the name of the store, was named Chang Min, patted Jae Joong’s head and led him into his shop. “Your friend seems like he’s got ants in his pants or something, though. Try to do something about that.”
Jae Joong nodded and turned to face Si Won, who was awkwardly standing outside the shop, and glared. “Get in here! There’s nothing wrong with the place, look! All I see are maid costumes and… whips… and chains and handcuffs and… imitation penises and… OHMYGOD SI WON WHAT KIND OF STORE HAVE YOU BROUGHT ME TO?!”
“I told you!” Si Won yelled back, refusing to budge from his spot outside the store. Chang Min, who had already made his way to stand behind the counter, had his arms crossed and lips pursed into a tight frown.
“Hey, you were the one who willingly entered whilst well aware of the fact that this is a BDSM store.”
“I-I…”
“Why’d you come here, anyway?” Chang Min asked, elbows resting on the counter as he leaned forward until he was inches away from Jae Joong; squinting as he looked the latter in the eyes.
“I… anniversary… Christmas gift… desperate… no shops open…-“ Jae Joong tried, but Chang Min interrupted his stammering with a loud cackle.
“I think I’ve heard enough.” Chang Min laughed, standing up straight, “I’ve got just what you need, though. You mentioned an anniversary?”
Jae Joong nodded silently. Now he understood why Si Won had been so hesitant. He cursed his damned memory for failing him just when he needed it the most.
“Wait here.” Chang Min told him before entering a small room in the back. When he returned, he held a relatively large box in his hands and placed it atop the counter. “I have it - the answer to your gift needs.”
“What is it?” Jae Joong couldn’t help but ask, and almost immediately regretted it when a devious grin made its way to Chang Min’s lips.
Chang Min opened the box, and in it sat a skimpy looking French maid costume - complete with the apron and laced headband.
He gulped thickly as he felt blood rush to his face, “I… I can’t give Yun Ho that! What… what’s he going to do with a skanky maid outfit?!”
“He’s not going to be wearing it, my friend, you are.” Chang Min sleazily replied, eyebrows wiggling suggestively.
“M-me…?” Jae Joong asked, pointing to himself.
“It’s every gay man’s dream to see his gay lover all dressed up as a skanky French maid, don’t you know? He gets to take it off you one piece at a time, while drinking in the sight of a slutty-looking you. Do you really want to deprive him of that?”
“But… but I…”
Chang Min rolled his eyes and closed the box, hands resting on his hips, “Are you some kind of fluffy couple that doesn’t have sex?”
“N-no!” Jae Joong denied, face beet red. “We… we do…”
“Great. Buy this, then. He’ll love it.”
Jae Joong bit his lip and glanced over at Si Won, who was standing outside with his back turned. He sighed and averted his gaze back to Chang Min, who was more than eager to sell the outfit until he finally reached a decision.
“Fine.”
~;~
“I just cannot believe you bought him that.” Si Won told Jae Joong for the 12th time in a row after they had left Chang Min’s shop. They were on their way to Yun Ho now.
“It’s your fault for taking me there!” Jae Joong bit back, “And also for being a wuss and not entering the store. It’s your job to talk me out of buying skimpy costumes!”
Si Won rolled his eyes and grabbed Jae Joong’s wrist for the second time that day, heightening their pace, “Whatever. What’s done is done. Now hurry up, I can already see Yun Ho waiting for you by that bench and he doesn’t look too happy.”
“Jeepers! I forgot that I’m totally late for our date!”
Si Won stopped abruptly in his tracks, making Jae Joong’s face collide harshly with his back. He turned to look at Jae Joong with utter disdain painted all over his face. “‘Jeepers’? Nobody says that anymore, Jae.”
“It’s better than swearing, okay?” Jae Joong huffed defensively.
“Oh please. You act like you and Yun Ho don’t fuck. I’m pretty sure you swear when the two of you-“
“What I say when Yun Ho and I get intimate is between me and him. Not you.” Jae Joong hissed, though he could not hide the embarrassment in his tone. “A-anyway, don’t stop walking. I’m already twenty minutes late!”
“I wonder whose fault that is.” Si Won said as he continued to walk again.
“Yours.” Jae Joong replied.
“What’s his?” Yun Ho suddenly spoke; tone cold and bitter.
“Yun Ho!” Jae Joong exclaimed.
Yun Ho did not say anything in response to Jae Joong as he grabbed him from Si Won with a hiss; eyes murdering the latter viciously. “Sorry, Si Won, but this is a date between me and Jae Joong. I don’t think we invited anyone else to join us.”
“I wasn’t planning on staying,” Si Won replied defensively, both arms raised chest level. Ignoring the evil eye sent to him by Yun Ho, he turned to face Jae Joong, “I’ll see you next time, Jae.”
“Bye.” Jae Joong waved before turning to face Yun Ho. He almost flinched when he saw the jealously in his lover’s eyes.
“Well you don’t have to lovingly wave at him as he leaves.” Yun Ho huffed whilst crossing his arms and sitting down on the bench he had once been seated on until Jae Joong and Si Won arrived.
“I wasn’t waving at him lovingly.” Jae Joong pouted, sitting down beside Yun Ho.
“Well you’re twenty minutes late. I wouldn’t really have minded, but then I saw you with him and-“
“We chanced upon each other in the shopping center. Our meeting was completely serendipitous and was not at all planned. Besides, he sort of helped me to find you a present…”
Yun Ho turned to face Jae Joong, jealousy completely forgotten at the mention of a present. “Speaking of presents, I got you this,” he pulled out a small white box from what seemed to be out of nowhere and handed it over to Jae Joong.
Jae Joong accepted the box and opened it slowly, “You got me a watch.” He said, a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Happy hundredth day!” Yun Ho exclaimed, “Oh, and I got you something else for Christmas… here!”
Jae Joong outstretched his hand and eyed Yun Ho incredulously when he recognized what he had been given, “Condoms for Christmas, Yun Ho?” he couldn’t help but laugh, and blush at the same time at the present he had received.
“Don’t be picky, you know what they say - it’s the sex that counts.”
“It’s the thought that counts, Yun Ho. The thought.” Jae Joong chuckled.
Yun Ho shrugged nonchalantly and pursed his lips, “Meh. Thought, sex, same thing.”
Jae Joong laughed.
“What’s that, though?” Yun Ho asked, curious as to what had been inside the box Jae Joong had been holding onto the entire time.
“Oh. Um… it’s your gift.” Jae Joong almost whispered, slowly handing the box over to Yun Ho. He could feel his cheeks turn red at the thought of the box and its content.
Yun Ho took the present and opened it, uttering nothing. When the silence became too unbearable to Jae Joong, the latter began rambling.
“I… I’m sorry if you don’t like it! It’s just that guy, Chang Min, said you’d like it and I was really desperate to find you a gift, which is why I was late, and it was either this or soda. I didn’t want to get you soda! I’m really, really-“
Before Jae Joong could get another word out, Yun Ho closed the distance between them with a kiss; succeeding in ending the other’s rant. When they parted, Jae Joong was left gasping for breath.
“Whoever this Chang Min person is, he was totally right.”
“Y-you mean you… you like it?”
Yun Ho nodded. “Of course. Now, can we please go back to my place? It’s getting cold, and I think I know of a way to keep warm that involves you, me, my condoms and your maid outfit.”
