miss olmstead's parents seem to be profiting quite nicely from her talent.

speaking as an artist, do you think that her work is real art or just doodles with a fortuitous resemblance to modern abstract painting?

i've worked with children in art classes for a few years. i've never seen anything that engaging. while i don't think she's a prodigy and i find the whole idea kind of silly, the article is right. people are buying her work. i like it. i like it a lot.

i've seen all sorts of children's artwork -- from the pictures hung up in my best friends' basements to the work at the art museum. i've never seen anything resembling modern abstract like that.

still, i do find it really silly and funny. more power to her if she can make money to put away for her college fund, so she can actually pursue art if she decides.

College fund nothing. Her parents are totally going to blow that money, just like all parents who exploit their children for money before they're old enough to realize what's going on.
