I'm thinking of making THE SWITCH... to Macs. I don't do anything particularly powerful or tech-minded with a computer, Office documents migrate easily, oh, and they're fucking cheap. Does anyone have some really bad experiences with them? Or with applecare? I'd like to know, so I can compare them with my mixed, but largely okay time with Dell tech ( Read more... )

I've always had pretty good experience with Dell tech support- but I think that's because I have like the Gold service plan so I get fast tracked to people in Texas who know things about computers. Just a note. I don't know anything about Macs...

See, so did I, but I didn't have this mysterious Gold plan. I guess I just bring out the best in people... right... I'm mostly interested in getting out of PCs because of the rampant spyware/virus problems, and want to know that in case of disaster, if Apple will be as nice as Dell was (they completely rebuilt my computer in 4 days)

I've used Macs exclusively for the past three years or so, and so far I haven't had to use Applecare except in the case of a suddenly non-working AC charger (after a 5 minute phone call they replaced it, free of charge -- it was in my mailbox within 3 days.)

Also, now that Macs are Intel-based, you can even go ahead and install a Windows OS if you want, so really, there's no reason not to switch.

i'm not committed enough to xp to install it (although i have no problems with it). i guess this was fait accompli, but i'm glad to know that you've had few problems.

i hate macs, but dell is also the worst thing ever.

i love my compaq, but i'm on my way to geek squad right now to see what the fuck is wrong with it, and it's only been a year. *sigh*

but you can't even play ZUMA on macs! seriously, what is that?

Mac's aren't bad, but honestly HP is the best thing that's ever happened to me, if you're willing to spend $2500 on a laptop, that is.
