and here's me thinking sydney was a place for racial acceptance. moving ahead with the times. how wrong i was. watching the news made me so angry. i think i'll make a post about it right now.
i know what you mean. i love this city but it makes me despair. and it's not only the shire, either. it's nationwide, it's systemic. we have all forgotten the fact that we are visitors to this land and that all our claims on it are not binding but fleeting.

So much for "this only ever happens overseas where there is alot of deprivation and political upheaval" What disappoints me is that I thought we were over the tribalism thing, that we could think and act as individuals - but no, the mob mentality is alive and well it appears.
i completely agree. i think what i find so shocking too is not only the mob mentality that seems to spring out of the ether, but also the rabid support that this kind of violence gets from the supposedly responsible, placid people of the suburbs. i've been listening to talkback over the last few days and the sheer amount of hatred --- it's frightening.
