okay really, I am so happy you've posted this. I'm trying to finish up this short story I've been working on today and I've been scouring my bookshelves for a little boost to give me the motivation to finish. Frank O'Hara's 'How To Get There' and W.C.W's 'Overture to A Dance of Locomotives' and the Louise Glück that you listed...so many of these are the exact reason I love poetry. And 'The Time Around Scars', ahh, so wonderful.

oh, i agree with you, on all three counts. but especially ferlinghetti. i remember when i first read A Coney Island of the Mind, i was quite astonished by it and i didn't know what to do with myself. i was struck with that feeling you get where you just want to show someone what you just read, to share its brilliance and reaffirm it. it was just so --- what's the word? --- pyrotechnic, a poem so dexterous and sharp, as ambiguously stunning perhaps as the Coney Island lights after dark.

I'd love it if you send me these poems. There are a significant number of these I've never read.

I always enjoy the lists you post. You have a consistency and quality in your tastes that makes me want to read everything on them that I haven't already read.

i'm never sure about the worthiness of my preferences - i feel like i'm too easily enamoured by anything with beautiful words - so i really appreciate your trust in my taste. i know i don't comment on your journal nearly enough but i follow your posts very closely and always delight in the things you have to say. so, a compliment from you, jane, means a lot. thank you.

I've read many; the poets if not the poems.

Please send!
