WOW I just found this and I really enjoyed it. I'm a huge backstory!hoar and your vision of the Stark family (of Brandon, especially) and how things might have been, had he lived, is just beautiful here.

and oh my god the subtle implications of (at least, one-sided) incestuous desire--that tidbit is fantastic? who doesn't love a party at Dysfunction Junction, right smack dab in the middle of Incestylvania?

and Cat! you envision her so wonderfully here. she's not a romantic, and yet she's still young and alone; a girl sent away from her family to the strange world of the North. I love how much that loneliness reads through! it makes you wonder if Brandon's dismissal hurts so much not because he isn't faithful, but because he apparently doesn't care enough to think that his lady wife might feel isolated and estranged, simply by virtue of being in some alien world.

and then Ned just comes in with the awkward sweetness and it's so endearing and sad.

And I did and NOW I SHIP IT FOR REALS. XD I am big into Lyanna being the only woman Brandon ever loved

it's funny, I've never really had any strong feelings on Ned/Cat as a pairing; I like them well enough, but I'm not diehard about them. that being said, it was really great to read this fic that represents their relationship with such...compassion? idk, it made me feel very warm inside and, as a non-shipper, that's always a treat.

p.s. would you mind if I friended your journal? I'm always excited to meet new ASOIAF/GoT fans.

This is by far my favourite Ned/Catelyn story ever! It's perfect. The angst behind their actions, the way you describe the emotions behind all of it: it's beautiful. I wished you'd continue with this and give them a truly happy ending. This prompt has such great potential for a multi-chapter story that it saddens me that it probably will never happen. =(

Wow, thank you so much!!! That means a lot to hear! I never say never but I don't think that I'll continue because I have a hard time, unfortunately, seeing where it could be a TRULY happy ending and still in character. (Because clearly Ned/Cat DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TRAGEDY SO I FEEL THE NEED TO WRITE MORE. XD) Theyre both just so much about honor and duty that I think there'd be guilt no matter what. Poor bbs. =( Plus I generally try and stay away from writing multi-chaptered fics because I have a bad track record of completing them. But I'm really flattered that you liked it enough to want to see it expanded. =) I do write a lot of Ned/Cat one-shots and other ASOIAF one-shots in place of chaptered pieces!

Well at least another chapter. Please, pretty please? At least a chance for them to truly make love to one another, consequences be damned. I'm slowly reading everything you've written on them. They are too perfect for words. I hope in the end of the series, when she's done with her revenge, she chooses to go and be with him. I want them reunited, even if only in death. =( My heart aches so much reading them. I've recently begun reading Game of Thrones. I'm just sitting here reading about how happy they were and to know what's about to happen just makes me miserable. Fanfic is saving me at the moment.

I hope that, too. =( Catelyn is my favorite character and she just makes me so, so sad. You said you recently started reading A Game of Thrones - were you watching the show before but spoilered for what's going to happen? Because if you haven't read the books yet, the heartache is just beginning. I liked them but didn't really start super shipping them until after A Clash of Kings in which I was like OH CATELYN YOU ARE HURTING ME WITH ALL OF YOUR SADNESS. =( And then A Storm of Swords ughhh can't even talk about it. CAN'T EVEN.

I have other AUs where Brandon lived and they end up doin' the deed instead of tiptoeing around it like in this one. XD I take part in the ASOIAF Kink Meme (asoiafkinkmeme) and a few of my lj friends started trollin' me with the AU prompts. And it works, of course, hahaha.
