Being a sports-deprived ex-Philadelphian, I can't help but be excited whenever one of my teams gets televised nationally. So needless to say, last night I happily settled in front of the TV with some snacks and a desire to stay up until the early morning watching my beloved but beleaguered Eagles play their hearts out for one last gasp at a ( Read more... )

I like people too much to plant such mental images in their imagination. :)

Hey, now it's my turn to say I have no idea what you're talking about! But I'm sad for you and hope you feel better! I'm sorry you're feeling heartache-y. :(

As I say to Poindexter more than once a season, I don't know why people get attached to a single team for years on end. It's not the same team!! Different players, different coach, different strategies! The Eagles of today are not the same as the Eagles of, say, 1981! The players aren't even from Philadelphia and may not even like it here! What exactly are you rooting for?! I suggested that Poindexter look at all the teams each year, decide which one he likes the most based on the players, teamwork, coaching, etc. and root for that team.

Funny, I got a dirty look when I suggested this. Hmmm....

Hehe. That is so not the way sports works. :) But I do kind of understand why you're confused, it's very hard to understand from an outsider's perspective. I will always live and die with the Phillies no matter where I am residing, but I was talking to Kim's boss the other day and had the same kind of moment. He's grew up in LA and has always been a New Orleans Saints fan. Now he lives in KC, but still sees a couple of games a year and we were talking about everything with the team, and the subject of them moving came up. So I asked if he'd still be a fan if they moved and he said he wasn't sure, it depends on a bunch of stuff like if they still kept the name "Saints." And I was just like WTF? That's the dumbest reason ever to decide what team you like ( ... )

Thank you! You have to be loyal to your team! Well except I abandoned my team from childhood. Yes I was a Cowboys fan (from the Roger Staubach days! Ohhh old people reminiscing!)But I got PISSED when they canned Tom Landry. You really think I would be over that by now.

I am still mad at the Colts for leaving Baltimore! Grudge much?

I am not really a big pro fan anymore but I am a RABID college fan. This stuff is important to me! I don't get it when people don't get it.

Heck, I'll log in this time. :) jupiter29 December 7 2005, 05:06:46 UTC
I never really got into college sports. I don't know why. I think (I can't speak for everyone, of course) you have to really root for a college team when you're a kid for it to really stick, and I didn't. I've been to college and I followed the teams while I was there, but it just didn't become a passion for me. And I've known so many people that rabidly follow a team other then where they went to school that I suspect it's the kind of thing that has to be started young.

But, anyway, good for you for a) understanding sports loyalty, and b) understanding that the cowboys completely suck. Those two things together make you my absolute favorite person. ;)

Not to worry, the Eagles are my favorite team too. Even though they had a rough season this year, I blame it mostly on all of McNabb's injuries, and TO's complete idiocy.

They will improve next year, and I'm still a loyal fan.

At least some of the other teams I like are still in the running. We won't mention how I feel about the Raiders team this year though, Holy cow!

Ok, off to my conferences.

Yeah, I'm not deeply worried about the Eagles. Between Donovan and TO and Tra Thomas and Lito Sheppard, they're down four all-pro players from last year. Can't really expect them to go back to the Super Bowl like that. :( But it still hurts to see them be so bad. :)

Careful, now, the Raiders are the equivalent of a very bad curse wood here in Kansas City. ;) My personal feelings aren't that strong, but I'll have to be careful nobody is looking over my shoulder. :)

I knew in my head that the Eagles were done for the year, so I wasn't really going to be that upset if they lost. But that game was just horrible. I honestly went beyond being a fan and just felt sorry for them. :(

I will definitely keep my hope up for next year. I think it will be an interesting off season!
