So I’ve been thinking a little more about Sam’s “fat-sucker Donna” line.
See, Jared’s been known to change lines if he thinks they’re OOC for Sam (the end of “Slash Fiction” for instance, and, more importantly, in “Do You Believe In Miracles”, where he gave a whole new meaning to what he’d said to Dean in “The Purge”, in actual fact changing the whole perception of his character in season 9 after “The Purge”).
This time, however, he didn’t. Which means that either Jared didn’t think much of the throwaway comment, or he thinks Sam would actually make a comment like that and think nothing of it.
It bothers me either way, I have to say. I mean, he could have just simply said “fat-sucker case Donna”, which would have been perfectly okay.
Ah well, at least Dean (Jensen?) took offense. (Which makes me wonder: was that annoyed, almost angry look scripted or was that just Jensen knowing Dean so well…)
Dean mightn’t know that a possum is a marsupial, but he knows what NOT to call a friend of theirs.
I’ve been trying to come up with rationalizations that make it less douchey of Sam to say that. And my mind went to the fact that they met Donna on the case just before Sam said those horrible, hurtful things to Dean, that sent Dean on a downwards spiral, and that he later claimed were a lie, and maybe he just wants to ~dismiss that whole scenario from his mind and play it down, but… Nope. Doesn’t work. No matter how I look at it, it’s still douchey. And douchey is as douchey does.
