If you ever need to find the surface distance between two points on the globe, or find out exactly what point is a given distance and direction from a known point on the globe, you should use Vincenty's Formulae.

Two weeks ago I would have said it was "useless and boring". A week ago I would have stuck with "useful, but boring." Now I think it's kind of cool, which is a sign that I have truly fallen down the rabbit hole.
