I just got back from Astronomy. We examined ice fissures on Mars tonight. I couldn't find them right away, but Parvati knew just how to adjust our telescope to see them. I'd never shared a telescope with her before. She usually shares one with Hermione. It worked out pretty well, though, because we found all of the landmarks we were supposed to alot faster than I ever have in Astronomy before, and so we got to leave class early, too. It looks like Parvati might be my partner for the rest of the year, which means that I'll probably do alot better than I did before. I hope she doesn't mind not working with Hermione.

The ball is in 3 days. I'm nervous about it. I shouldn't be, because I think it'll probably be fun. Ron and Hermione are going to meet me and Susan there, and Susan says that Ernie and Hannah might want to sit with us, too. I just still don't like dances, and I don't like dancing. I was looking at some of the dresses that people are planning on wearing, and they're just weird. I don't even know how someone could be comfortable in clothes like that.

Sirius took me to Hogsmeade to pick out new dress robes. They're almost just like my old ones, but maybe a little bit nicer. We had lunch, too, and I actually got to talk to him for a bit. He told me all sorts of stories about when my parents went to school, like when he and my father and Professor Lupin enchanted the corridors around Hufflepuff Tower so that everyone who went through had to walk on their hands on the ceilings. He wouldn't tell me how, though, even though I swore that we wouldn't ever do that here. I bet Ron and I could find that spell in the library in no time. I bet Hermione already knows it. And then he tried out my new broom, and he taught me some tricks that I think I can use against Ravenclaw. It was great, and I wish we talked more. He says we can go again soon for the rest of my wardrobe.

I think one of the second years left the windows open all evening. We have all sorts of moths flying around the common room. I wish it wasn't after curfew, because I don't think I'm going to fall asleep any time soon, and I wish I could go for a walk.
