He’s in the crowd bouncing around to the killer new songs. He loves this band. They’re his absolute favourite. Well besides Metallica, Coldplay, Areosmith…. They *are* up there. And they are all so fucking hot. Not that he didn’t have a thing for Steven Tyler a few years back. But now he loves In Bloom. He knows all their stats. Orli--the drummer--who he knows the band was named after is 24, born in January and has broken his back and almost every other bone in his body. Billy--the basest--is 32 a Leo and has the sexiest Scottish lilt in all of history. And Dominic--ah sexy Dominic--is the lead guitar and vocalist. Dom is the one he wants to get with the most. But Elijah doesn’t know if they’re gay or not, though the name of their band is supposed to mean something ‘cus they always avoid talking about it. Opting instead for the ‘it’s a band secret’ out. Elijah thinks it’s probably wishful thinking on his part.
Elijah comes prepared this time. He has a backstage pass and he is determined to find out if the rumours on the fandom site are true. Everyone there--himself included--are dying to know. Most of them young girls who are into something called ‘slash’ that Elijah himself is just barely getting into. For not being fags themselves, they sure know what goes on between two guys. Lij doesn’t know if he could write something like that and he is actually a gay guy. He knows he’d like to write one about himself and Dominic. Would that make it a Mary Sue?
He notices Dominic look over at Billy and Elijah just knows something is going on there. There’s this sizzle of sex and blood hiding behind Dominic’s eyes before facing the microphone and screaming out the next few words with Billy. Bring me into your escape!
And they go right into a new song. This one starts out with Billy playing bass and Orlando comes in with a light snare then they break into complete rock mayhem and everyone starts to bounce around again. Elijah thinks they sound really garage-band especially with Dominic’s gravely voice. Elijah wonders how that voice would sound like whispering in his ear. He has heard the band speak on MTV and he’s discovered that British accents make him horny. He’s actually had to lock himself in his room when he’s playing his taped interviews over and over. It would be embarrassing for his parents to come in just when he’s jacking off to Dominic Monaghan’s voice.
He’s sat in his bedroom with his tapes hoping for new videos or interviews and going online to the sites he knows has pictures of the guys. He has one of Dominic’s naked ass some of Orlando bare-chested. He likes the ones where they are kissing or almost kissing. He has one of Orlando giving Dominic a piggy-back that is now his wallpaper. Yeah he might be just a little obsessed.
Dominic is shaking his hair all over the place and messy blonde strands stick to his face as he sings. Then he points the mike out to the audience and everyone sings the chorus to him like a chant. If you fuck me then you fuck with me…. They are not so wholesome and he can’t crank the songs loud at home. But it doesn’t really matter. He’s getting out of his parents house soon enough. What was he doing there at the age of 20 anyway? They didn’t pay for his college. He’d had to earn that art scholarship himself. And what extra he had to pay was brought in by his hours at the music store. But he was thinking about dropping out. What was he supposed to do with art anyway?
The band finally slip into their last song for the night after three encores. It’s a ballad that Elijah had spent much of his high school years playing on repeat as he contemplated the perks of suicide. When his mother had left when he was 16 and the silence in the house was even more unbearable than the mayhem it’s like now. Maybe if he’d had siblings, it would have been a little easier to cope. Well from what he could get of the conversations now--though he didn’t really care--was that his dad had knocked some other woman up. But he was leaving soon so he wouldn’t have to deal with that anymore. Thank God.
Don’t you think I’m ugly when you cry so much.
Before the last song ended Elijah headed toward the backstage area. There were bouncers back there and he showed them his little badge and they let him stand there with about a dozen other people who had acquired backstage passes. The music slowed and the crowd screamed hoping the band would come back again but then the bar started up some prefab crap that no one wanted to listen to and the guys burst down the hallway.
Dom led the way sweaty and grinning followed by Billy who was laughing clutching a couple bras and Orlando hitting his drumsticks together still obviously hearing the music in his own brain. Elijah knew that a backstage pass didn’t necessarily mean he would get into the greenroom to hang out with the guys but he tried to catch Dominic’s eye as they strode past and into the door.
“Weren’t they hot?” A girl with dark hair asks beside him. Eijah looks over to see a short girl with dark eyeliner and lipstick. She seems as excited as he feels but she hides it better. Elijah is practically bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. All he can manage is a ‘um-huh’.
“Have you seen them before in concert?” She smiles sweetly.
“Yeah. Twice before, but this is the first time I actually got to meet them.” It’s nice to have someone to talk to while they wait. “They came into the club I saw them at last time, but they didn’t stay long. I think Dominic got a headache or something. I stood outside their bus for a while waiting to get their autograph. But they never came out.”
“Last time I went, I got their autographs but there were so many other girls there that I pretty much got pushed out of the way.” She rolls her eyes and Elijah looks around at the other people who are either waiting silently or talking quietly in pairs like them.
He looks back at the girl. “What if they are only going to pick a few people to go in?” He asks suddenly.
“Hmmm…I never thought of that. It’s a possibility.” She shrugs. She doesn’t seem to be so concerned. He wonders how she can be so calm while it’s taking all his willpower to not climb the walls. There are butterflies in his stomach.
“They’ll pick you.” He says supportively. “You’re cute.” He guesses for a girl she is. Maybe they really do like girls. Maybe they will fuck her tonight.
She interrupts his thoughts. “Uh…no I think they’d probably be more interested in you.” She laughs and he’s a little taken aback that there are other people who like slash. Of course there are but he figures they all live in different parts of the world. None near him.
“What do you mean?” Does she knows something he doesn’t. God he hopes so. But she doesn’t have time to explain because the bouncers have now opened the door and are letting all of them in. All of them? How is he going to get a chance to talk to them with this many people trying to get their attention.
Everybody whips out some sort of memorabilia to have signed and for a little while all Orlando, Billy and Dominic do is sign stuff. When Elijah hands them a copy of their new CD he stammers on his own name and he wonders if he can die from hyperventilating. But soon everyone is mingling around the room. Orlando is on the couch still air drumming while four girls hang on to his every word. He spies Billy laughing with two young guys--well older than him but still young--over by the food platters. The rest of them are crowded around Dominic who’s trying to answer as many questions as possible. The dark-haired girl catches his eye and nudges him.
“Let’s get some drinks. He’ll still be talking when we get back.” She smiles. Elijah isn’t really sure he wants to leave, but he could sure use a drink if he’s going to ask them what he wants to.
They wander over to the ice bin full of coolers and beer. He picks a Rev and hands her one too. “These are awesome.” He informs her and she snickers. “What? You don’t like it?” He hopes she doesn’t draw attention. They really aren’t legal to be drinking. Or he isn’t at least.
“Nothing. Um…so what made you think they would want me in here over you?” She is rolling the blue bottle in her hands.
“Just…well mostly making conversation. I’m actually hoping they are all gay.” The truth come out a bit painfully. He glances over to make sure Billy is far enough away. “I actually want to ask, tonight.” Which is why he needs the drink. He adds to himself.
“You think they’re gay too?” She suddenly gets a look on her face like she’s forgotten something. “Um…my name’s Raven.” The bottle is open now and she takes a tentative sip. “Not bad.”
“Elijah.” He thinks he should know someone named Raven. Someone who thinks the guys are gay. “Why do you think they’re gay?” He takes a gulp of his own drink and realizes how he knows a girl named Raven. He chokes and continues coughing as she pats his back, clearly trying not to laugh.
She doesn’t get to answer again because Dominic is there beside him. Elijah recovers and gets red-faced at the fact.
“Are you okay, man?” Dominic reaches past to grab a Heineken and brushes Elijah’s arm. Elijah knows he’s stopped coughing now, ‘cus he’s stopped breathing.
Raven comes to his rescue. “Sure. It just went down the wrong tube I think.” She states lightly, tucking some of her hair behind her ear. “How’s it going with you?” Is she so cool because she’s that sure that Dominic isn’t into chicks? “You guys rocked tonight, but it seems a bit heavy in here.”
“Yeah. But ‘sall cool.” Elijah looks over at the others who are all looking a bit peeved at the fact Dominic is here talking instead of with them still. But they don’t look like they’re going to crowd around again.
“I’m Raven. This is Elijah.” She holds the bottle up a bit. “We like Rev.”
“It’s good.” Dominic taps his beer to each of their bottles. “Of course your over age.”
They both laugh. Just being with Dominic seems to loosen Elijah up. Well maybe it’s the fact that he’s drinking a lot. He’d never been a heavy drinker and after only three of those blue drinks, he’s feeling pretty good. It seems everyone else is as well and as the night wears on Elijah knows he’s going to pop the question.
Dominic is now standing really close to Billy as fans talk to them and each other. Elijah looks hazily over there and sees that look again. This time he’s sure he sees it. Dominic wraps his arm around Billy’s shoulders and kisses him on the temple. Now that he knows he sees. Or did he? How drunk is he? And where is Raven? Did she see it too?
He’s still looking and Dominic catches his eyes. He has to blink a few times before he realizes he’s been staring for the longest time. Maybe all night. There’s an uneasy fuzz invading his brain as he goes back to the ice bin and digs around and he only barely recognizes that his hand is getting colder and colder. And then there’s another hand in with his taking out one of those blue bottles and sticking it into his own cold, red one.
Happily he blinks up at the drummer. He has the darkest brown eyes that Elijah could ever remember seeing ever. “You might want to slow down on them.” He says but Elijah thinks he could be talking under water. And for some reason this is really funny to him. Orlando thinks the fact that Elijah’s laughing is funny. Or at least he must, because Orlando is laughing too.
But then Elijah stops laughing. “I’ve got to take a piss.” He states.
“Want me to come with you?” Orlando asks, his voice still filled with humour. Yeah, and can you hold it for me too?
Elijah is sure he hasn’t spoke but Orlando is laughing even more now as they walk over to the bathroom door. “If you really want me to.” He says in a low, sexy voice and Elijah’s just a bit too drunk to be mortified. “But I think you can manage yourself, killer.”
The bathroom door shuts behind him but he’s not sure if he’s closed it or not. He’s also not sure if Orlando is gay. Fuck. Why didn’t he just ask? Well he pretty much did and was given a vague answer. He does his business with a song in his head. I wish I could show you just how ugly you’ve become but you’re just so beautiful when you give me head. Your dark eyes fuck me up. They trip me out. I’d like to…. Where has Elijah seen dark eyes?
He washes up and opens the door back up to find Orlando still standing there. “…Poke them out.” Orlando doesn’t sing it but only says it quietly with only a hint of a smile. “He wrote that song about me you know.” And Elijah who has guessed that already no matter how much alcohol he’s consumed, nods slowly. “We’re going to leave soon. Back to the bus. Do you want to come?” Orlando’s hot breath on the back of his neck melting into his numb brain as something that really turns him on. Elijah nods again. He just can’t seem to find his voice tonight.
“Good.” And Orlando is already gone back to his adoring fans. Those four girls he was with earlier. He doesn’t even give Elijah a second look but pours out the full-on flirting with the girls. Elijah doesn’t know what to do besides open up the bottle he is still clutching.
Then there is a light voice beside him and again he has to focus his hearing to actually recognize that Raven is back next to him. “What was that all about?” She looks like she could be feeling as good as he is right now. Well she is a small girl.
“The…uh…bus. He helped me in the bathroom. But not in the bathroom and I think he’s gay. And that Dominic is too. He wrote a…a song. Head.” He knows he’s not making much sense right now.
“Well good for you. If I think what you said is what I think you said, then you’ll have to post everything about it tomorrow.” That’s right. Raven was Fag_Hag and he was Elwood. It was funny that they’re here together. But not together.
“Right Mary Sue and all that stuff.” He finds the phrase ‘Mary Sue’ odd for some reason. “But not.” He hastily adds.
“I get it. Maybe we should go outside.” What should they go outside for? “I’ll keep you company while you wait. And maybe the cool air will help you sober up a bit.” Okay so maybe she wasn’t as drunk as he was.
The bouncers tell them they can’t bring their drinks outside but that doesn’t matter. Elijah doesn’t think he need any more anyway. The night isn’t cold but it is breezy enough to catch him off guard and he ends up taking big gulps of it. “Wow this is a bit….” He all of a sudden knows that he hasn’t had a smoke all night. Where were they anyway?
“What are you looking for?” Raven holds his jacket up for him with a cheeky grin. He quickly digs in the pocket for his cigs and lighter.
But he only just lights one up before the guys are coming out of the building with a few fans trailing out. A few that look sober head straight for their cars while some head for the lobby he assumes to call cabs. Only some remember to say goodbye to the band. Raven quickly presses his jacket to him with no more than a ‘good luck’ and she’s bounding off to the lobby as well.
“Hey.” Orlando tips his head toward Elijah. “Comin’ inside?”
Elijah steps forward hesitantly and looks at his cig. “Lose it.” Dominic orders or at least it sounds like an order to Elijah. So he takes one more drag and throws the rest to the ground. There’s more where that one came from.
He steps into the bus and the first thing he observes, is that it doesn’t look much like a bus on the inside. Well yeah it’s small and narrow, but it looks to him like it could be someone’s mobile home. The next thing he notices is Dominic has Orlando pressed to the wall and is kissing him on the neck. Well. Now he doesn’t have to worry about making an ass of himself asking the question.
He throws his jacket to the couch as he watches the two of them make out and tries to put it all to memory. They will want details. Then a pair of arms comes round him run hands over his chest and a moist tongue licks his ear from lobe up. It’s clear that he is not her just to observe. He shivers as Billy licks and nips at his right ear and wonders how Billy knows that his ears are so sensitive.
“Aren’t they beautiful together.” Billy whispers hotly but chilling him only in a good way. Elijah finds only a fragment of his voice that comes out as a hiss. “Yes.”
